Sand Point Success II

Recommended Posts

August 11 day trip to Sand Point's Grassy Bay - Fished 18-24 FOW and had good action when the wind was steady out of the SSW. The wind died during the middle of the day and the fishing quieted as well. Perfect time to have shore lunch! The wind changed to the NNW and afternoon/evening fishing picked up again. Walleyes were a little smaller than last year with the biggest at 17". Talked to a few other boats and they had a guy pull a 29" in a little deeper water the night before. (the smallies were shallower on the rock piles too) Thanks to all who post all the great comments on fishing, camping, park matters, etc. Until next August!

Thanks for the report Kid. I don't suppose you'll be making any day trips before the 4th of Sept? If so keep the reports coming.

Nice report Kid Zero. We were in Brown's Bay over the weekend too and cleaned up on the rock bass. Only got a couple smallies. We were in 10 FOW w/ crawlers and slip bobbers. Enough for a great shore lunch anyways and that was good for us.

I hope to get back up there and try our luck again soon.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!

I agree on the choices.   I didn't mean to say that a battery auger was better or greener or whatever.  I could care less about that.   It just seems that "most" ice anglers have made a switch to a battery auger in recent years.  That's all I was saying.  I know about a dozen people who regularly ice fish and they all have battery augers now.  I bet if you conducted a survey of all ice anglers, the majority would answer that they use a battery powered auger.

Best weed eater I've ever run with great longevity is Echo, I'd check them out

Hey government,  Just give us choices. I don’t care what people use as long as as it works for you. I’m needing a new weed eater. Plan on a Stihl FS 40 easy start. I’m done with the cheaper brands. Just don’t last long enough.  Probably true with the Stormy Daniels of the world as well. Cheaper don’t last long enough 🤭

If you turn on a movie they survive the 20min ride just fine. After many controlled experiments, I've found that they survive much better if you show "Finding Nemo" instead of "Jaws."
