Deer lake muskies

3 posts in this topic

I am heading for Deer lake next week. How is the Muskie fishing and where should I fish? How is the fishing period?

Earlier this summer (mid-late june) on a couple trips to the lake, I was able to raise some nice muskies in shallow bays. Mid-lake sturcture at that time seemed to have fewer active fish, this may have changed. Had a low 40" fish hit a bucktail. Some head shakes and the fish was free of my grasp. Good luck and let us know how your trip turns out.

I have read that mercury levels are a reason there is no commercial harvest on vermilion. But it was probably the same thing you read as I have not found a second source of that. There is commercial harvest of rustys on other Minnesota lakes so there must be a reason it's not done here.    For or what it's worth, the DNR has suggestions on how much fish to eat because of mercury.
