I was out on memorial weekend, and caught a 46"er, while trolling for walleyes on a rattle rap, on the south side of grassy flat. My first Muskie, no camera, I was just happy to get it in the boat, and that it swam away unharmed!! Thankfully I had a freind with who has caught muskies, and helped me through it.Lesson learned, to always have a disposable camera in the tackle box!!!

Got out Monday AM. 25-30mph wind hurt the casting, plus I had my Bro in the boat, and he's not super fisherman or anything. He wasn't too comfortable with the waves. But, I had a 40' or so follow. Lost something trolling, and had a big fish eat a Mag Bulldawg. 7 hooks but not one landed home. It slashed the hell out of my bait though.

They seemed hot out there.

Caught a 45" on Thursday in 30 FOW while jigging with a Griz Jig and a leech. Fought it for 20 mins and brought it boatside for measurement and hook removal. Didn't lift it out of the water as we wanted it to live on for another 10 inches or so...

Nice. Good to see people let them go. I've seen two pics in the last week, of 50"+ fish that were out of the water at bait shops or the back of a pick-up trucks. That breaks my heart.

Good job. It's nice to know there are smart people around still.

The statistics from my journal for the 2016/2017 spearing season have been compiled. I had 21 sits, on 7 different bodies of water across 3 MN counties (Cook, Washington and Hennepin). Average sit was 4.4 hours. Number of pike seen averaged 1.08 per hour. Along with some old favorites, I added some new spots and 3 new lakes to the repertoire and they ended up being new favorites.    I saw, and passed on many pike over 30 inches. I was fortunate enough to have great views of 4 muskies, and more than a few big bass. Interestingly I only saw one walleye, one bowfin and one carp. Those numbers are down.     Here are a few of my pictures from the past season. Not the best quality, but they are from an old LG slider phone.    A trio for the pan and  the days swim team (Johnson red/white and sunfish; Dennis Bertram shiner). Dave Pawlak spear. Larger pike had been attacked by a bigger fish…she was cut up and scaled ahead of the dorsal fin.      Pike, some panfish and a Kraemer 9 tine spear.      I have a few more pictures of some fish n the hole and will try to add them later when I have time.
