Calling Gene, Gene the Cubbie Loving Machine

Couldn't beat him, but the WSox found a way to give up the late lead in full last night so it wasn't a total downer.

OK Geno,

Here are my prime trade baits, who will you give me for them?

Juan (the Con) Uribe

Ryan Buckvich

Dewon Day

Bobby Jenks

Scotty Pods

Jermaine Dye

Joe Crede

Bryan Anderson

Make it some good stuff man, remember, many of these fine athletes have an 05 World Series ring on their finger.

Prime?

Dye might command something on the market, but I almost have never heard of most of them bums before. (I'm actually surprised you didn't offer the entire starting lineup).

Lucky you asked "who" or I would have replied with a bag of bp balls and a couple of old bases. Nyuk, nyuk.

PS Here's a good one for you:

A guy that was gonna be on Cass at the same time as our big internet group offered to bring up WSox tix for a couple of series if anyone was interested......the only reply he got was from a local guide who said "bring them up, I need something to start my bonfire with" Hoooooeee!

Geno,

Tell me you are not drooling over the thought of Ryan Buckvich in Cubbie Blue. Come on man, make us an offer. Maybe Yosh Kiwano? or The Bat Boy! LOL

  • 2 weeks later...

Coupla more days before Windy returns from his trip to Cass and then he'll be showing us a nice Cubbie avatar AGAIN.

I sure hope the Cubbies are still in 1stPl when Windy returns - and also at the end of the season.

Now THAT is a truly beautiful avatar there Windy.

Cubs couldn't hold 1st, but as long as they are ahead of the WSox, you can look forward to next month's avatar too.

Geno,

Don't stare at it too long, I have embedded subliminal pictures of a nude Hawk Harrellson in the C and if you look at it for more than 20 seconds you will see the Hawk a Roo in his full glory! LOL

That's ok Windy because after 3 straight months of losing our bet and displaying that avatar, it turns you into a Cubbie-Blue-Kool-Aid sippin' CubFan. You'll like it though 'cause it's better than being a WSox fan. Nyuk, nyuk

Spinner,

I think if I were to get a Cubbie jersey it would have to have Broglio on the back. Ask Geno who Ernie Broglio is, probably the most famous Cub in history. Or maybe a Slammy Sosa jersey with the name spelled out in wine corks, LOL

God, Windy, stop diverting attention from the present to the past will ya?

So you are still jealous of Sammy, huh? Why? Because he is better than most of your WSox? Tsk, tsk.

And as to the past, what happened to your chest-thumping about the WSox having "the best rotation in baseball"?

That was one great inning Garland (your favorite FLUKE 17 game winner twice removed) had against the Yanks last week.

All in all, there is still alotta ball to play.

Right now, I'm going with Yanks, Mariners, and Twins as division winners. Time will tell.

PS EVERYBODY knows Broglio came to the Cubs for Brock.

PPS Good to have you back --- keep stirring!

I got to keep stirring, people tell me I have the biggest spoon around. I knew the Slammy comment would get your goat (get the goat reference? Billy Goat, Cubs curse, etc) I thought the wine cork was a nice touch and Ernie Broglio is always there when we need a quick dig!!! LOL

From one spoon to another.

OK, get me up to speed guys. My oldest Cubbie recollections would probably be Kessinger, Santo, Hundley, Cardenal, Monday, Pappas, Rueschells, Williams and Jack Brickhouse. Where does Brogglio fit into this?

BTW, I just paid $204 for three tickets next Tuesday, and ringside I isn't. Are all you Chicago people rich or something? mad.gif

Ain't been to a game in about 10 yrs....can't stand having good seats and not being able to see because of all the friggin vendors standing in my line of sight.

Broglio for Brock was about in '66, give or take a few. I go back to about '64 when I was 9. Lots of mediocre players then..and ever since. Except in '69:

Kessinger, Beckert, Williams, Santo, Banks, Hundley, Hickman,Don Young, and Fergie. An awesome lineup that just wilted against the Mets.

Memories, misty water-color memories, of the way we were....

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
