Any rain?

Recommended Posts

It rained all day today in Duluth. Any rain up north?

A little bit, didn't really add up to much. Still looks like rain today so we'll see what happens. We need about 2-3 days of a steady rain before it will help matters.

We had some rain up to 1/2 inch in places but still real dry. Fire restrictions still in place. No open fires, not even charcoal.

The weather looks like it may rain up north this weekend so I am going to stay home and try to wrap up some of these last chores that I have yet to finish like the trailer on our little boat and some fence mending so I can turn it back on. My wife is sick of the horses walking through it all the time. So rain this weekend and be nice next weekend.

I went from Kab to Crane Lake via road at 3:30 pm, 5/16. It rained hard for about 10 miles of the whole trip - some north of Orr, most east of Orr. Little is better than none. Please be careful w/ fires!

I called VNP yesterday and asked about the burn ban. Still in effect, not to be lifted "anytime in the near future." I didn;t ask them to elaborate as the lady seemed annoyed that I called and asked.

Guess I'll wait till the day I am on my way up to call again but those of you up that way, please post if you get rain.

The word I have is they are looking at a rain deficit of like 3 inches for this calender year and are like 12 inches behind overall.

I am hoping it rains this weekend enough to allow campfires by Wed of next week.

Speak for yourself . . . heading up Saturday and coming out Wednesday. I think the rain can wait until Wednesday. wink.gif Face it, a monsoon could hit and that burn ban isn't coming off for weeks.

Agreed with 4ball. We need steady rain over a period of a week before they will even consider taking the ban off. It is VERY dry in the area!

Got back late from VNP on 5/18, they have had no rain worth mentioning. All wood and charcoal fires are prohibited. Bring a coleman stove for cooking. Park Service was checking campsites for violators.

Kab area got nearly an inch of rain the night of 5/18. I. Falls about the same - not as much in the Ash River area. Should see an update on the park web site Monday morning.

Hard to imagine an ice-out anytime before the month of May with that 10-day forecast and how much ice/snow still exists on the lake.  If ice out happens just prior to the opener, I do feel like that could be a good thing for the overall bite.  Let’s hope that is the outcome here and not an opener where we are ice fishing.   Remember the ice out date in 2012?  April 2nd...  Amazing to think it was ever that early!   Jeff and I will be up this weekend, retrieving our boats from winter storage and chasing some whitefish, Tullies, jumbo perch, and maybe even a crappie or two.  The bite for all species is usually really good this time of year so we’re looking forward to that.

It's my favorite time of the year, looking at the forecast and trying to figure out when the lake will truly begin its annual change. Daytime highs will be above freezing 8 of the next 10 days with refreezing at night. Maybe 7-8 inches of snow next week, but that precipitation forecast is too far off to be accurate. It's slightly more reliable than my prediction of a hurricane hitting the lake! I do see sun forecasted for 5 of 10 days with temps above freezing. The sun is starting to get pretty strong even when air temps aren't that high. If that snow doesn't hit mid-week, I could see a portion of the snowpack melting.   I'm heading up tomorrow to *inspect* the lake in person

Below zero lows...we are going the wrong way.  Not looking real good at the moment for an ice free opener. Things can go fast like last year with a handful of very warm days, but we better start making progress soon.

I noticed something in the pictures of the fish in my previous post that show up on my phone but not here. The little icon in the lower right. When I touch it, up pops the email of the author of the newspaper article that the phone detected. Maybe the phone is too smart!!😜
