Water Drop Plane on Late Tuesday Afternoon

Recommended Posts

Driving through Maple Grove early Tuesday evening I saw a DNR Firefighting plane that was dropping water at a point that was straight west of 694 if you could drive straight. It was picking up water out of either Eagle Lake, or Medicine Lake. It was neat to see. I thought it would be in the news, but didn't see it.

Any one else see it???

It was on Fox I believe. They where using it to put out a grass fire. Pretty cool.

There was a large grass fire right near the crystal airport. The fire danger has been remarkably high and the DNR reminds local fire dept's of the available resources. If they don't get used then its hard to justify them. If its out of control or moving too fast for conventional equipment the air tankers and choppers are the best way.

Yeah I saw that too while driving up 169, I was wondering what was going on.

There were 2 fires that day. One near the Crystal airport and one east(?) of Weaver Lake.

A couple of years ago I was out on Minnetonka fishing one of the south bays where I could pretty much see all the way out to Big Island and we watched one of those aircraft come in and scoop water repeatedly - it was almost as if they were practicing because they would then get airborne and dump only to come around and scoop again.

It was awesome to watch.

Daze Off

As crazy as that might sound, May 18th isn’t a bad guess.  We were on the lake yesterday and had somewhere around 30” of solid ice with some snow on top.  This is hard January-type ice.  No honeycombing, no chipping or slush.  In fact, my Dewalt hammer drill couldn’t take it.  It’s dead.   Another foot of snow on the way this week?  That won’t help.

Try the area where Minnehaha Falls runs into the river up to the ford dam. I've just used jig and fathead. Been several years since I've fished down there, but saw a lot of people shore fishing there. Pretty snaggy down there.

Never tried it down there, sounds like fun. Let us know how you did.  👍

Entries sure rolled in when I offered the case of beer.  We could meet at my Stuntz Bay boathouse if that would work.  Close to the landing, could anchor in front of the boathouse, or could park your vehicle at by the boathouse.  Maybe we could require the winner to be present, LOL.

Thinking about trying pool 2 (from shore) for the first time tomorrow morning, ideally looking for walleye. Anyone know any decent spots or what kind of baits I should use?   Thanks in advance

I know the owner.  In fact we rode snowmobiles together a couple days after the fire.  He lost most of his belongings.  Sounds like it was electrical.
