Still waiting on Dennis or Tom to report in with what they got , but the way it looks now Kyle and River Rat Andy had the 1, 2 combo with a 73 and 72 point flat respectivly in their boat , plus Andy takes over the booby prize lead with a 11 point channel!

Channels appear to be Opie with 44 points, followed by Dtro with a 40 pointer.

We see these photos of Kyle & Andy's fish yet?

The game is over for tonight as I've already caught a 47" flat I'm entering.

I've got a 34" channel I'm going to enter as well. wink.gif

It should be a good night of fishing. I am predicting a 28" channel and a 35" flat for my boat. Hopefully we can do better than that though. Good luck to every one.

Nice.

Good luck tonight. I am thinking the monkey on Hanson's back is getting tired and gonna fall off soon.

Somebody is going to land a 45"+ tonight.....but sadly it will likely be my partner instead of me.

Par for the course this year.

I am going to predict that the biggest fish of the season is caught tonight by someone....

I should call this "Spanked by Dennis." Dennis started the night with a 33 X 20 flathead at about 7:10 PM. Then a few hours later he follows it up with another 33 X 20, but this was a channel. Finally, around 12:45 he gets another 30 inch channel. I think these were all caught on creek chubs or cut creek chub.

Meanwhile, I'm using a ballon as a float with a bullhead and did not get a run. At least my bullhead was lively all night, and I did not get a snag. But, Dennis did not get a snag either so I should not be so smug.

It was a great night on the river, and I picked up some tips from Dennis that hopefully will get me on some fish next time. Thanks for a great evening Dennis.

The ever so changing water levels has seemed to have put the fish in lock jaw mode. Most of the fish caught last night were within the first hour or two of fishing.....then nothing.

It can only get better right?

We ended up with a little flat and little channel.

But boy how things have changed for RiverRat. He's riding high with a win last week and a win this week (unofficial).

Could we be seeing a complete turnaround with RiverRat in the pimp hat and LFC posing for this picture grin.gif

MMMMM might be. We boated 5 last night. 3 Flats and 2 channels. 2 Were early and 3 were late.

I know that we are right behind Dennis with our fish sizes. Nothing big but......... better than the egg.

If River Rat is ahead of that....... And he will pull the photos out of his pocket..... we should see someone else wearing that Monkey this year.

Though I fully expect someone else to be wearing the Pimp Hat this season.

HANSON!!!!!!!!!! SHAMU!!!!!!!!!!!

FRONT AND CENTER!!!!!!!

ATTENTION!

Y'all better dress warm tomorrow night.

I am wearing shorts and a tank top, but only because I am going to be on FIRE!!!

Kyle...I may be down by about 100 points in the flat division, but I am only a 85 pounder from taking the lead.

I thought I had dressed warmly, but it was still dang cold.

I just wanted to thank Brian for setting this up and all the captains that were generous enough to take me out. Once again, this was the highlight of my summer. I caught my personal best flat (thanks John) and also learned enough to start using my kayak for catfishing at night. I would have given up catfishing without all of your help.

So, thanks again captians:

Brian -- It was cold, and the fish were reluctant, but I saw my first sturgeon. I've got to try sturgeon fishing. Any night in a River Pro is a great night.

Dennis -- Any time fishing with you is a great learning experience. I sure learned some new things about circle hooks and reading currents. It was fun to have Jamie along too.

Eddie -- You new boat is awesome, and I enjoyed fishing in the Henderson area. You got me onto a flat in the last five minutes and gave me hope that I might place for flats this year.

John -- My PB flathead is also my biggest fish. That you had one on at the same time that probably was even bigger was a thrill I don't expect to happen again.

Dean -- My very first two flatheads were while fishing with you. I'm not sure if I'd have caught one yet if you hadn't got me started. I'd had a lot of blankless hours before learning some tricks from you. I'm definitely going to spend more time fishing for flats during the day after being out on the river with you.

Larry -- We had tough sledding this year, but last year made up for it. I'd say we're due next year, and I hope I get another chance to get out on your boat. It's always a comforting feeling knowing that your captain was a Rescue Swimmer in the Navy. Your boat handling and concern for safety is so professional, and those are good skills to learn from a master.

So, thanks agian all of you captains. My only suggestion for next year is to have a special kitty for the captains that got their riders on to the biggest cats. I suspect the riders would be willing to kick in a little extra to set up a captain's kitty.

Thank you all for a great time.

Holy mother of all cold and fog!

Probably the coldest AND foggiest night of fishing Flatties that this guy has seen. We wimped out at 11:30 and it took us an HOUR to get back upstream about 1 mile.

I ended up catching a nice channel that was 12lbs, had another one to the boat and right at the net, that was MUCH larger than the 12. In fact I honestly think it was close to 20. As I saw it come to the surface I was thinking about a 25lb flat because I caught it on the biggest bullhead I had. Then it turned over and I saw the gray and just about fell over. Only to have the hook pop out later mad.gif

We lost a few others that were hooked, but in the process found a nice pattern I think. Tonight should be good!

Thanks again Brian for the the work and I look forward to seeing everyone at the year end party.

Here's my fish from last night:

I Had the pleasure of fishing with fishhead last evening in the cool weather. On the way back to the landing a small percentage of the time we could not see anything as the fog was as thick as pea soup.

Now, on to the fish story. We had numerous runs and I caught a smaller one. Fishhead also got on the flathead board.

Thanks for the fun night Dennis.

This can all change if photo's from Andy and Kyle are not submitted from their respective catches on week 4

Dean -175 pts

Smallest flat went to WWG with a 29pt effort and channels went to River Rat Andy with a 11 pt dink.

The first ones trippy! But nice fish!

Cold front, cut bank! It all adds up to a rough year for me. I fished in the same area as you guys and many time. I got skunked for any major biggies!

LFC, thanks for tips, Kyle, nice boat!

Shacker!

Just remember what you learned from this year. The best part about cattin is the monkey rarely follows us through the winter season. And next year will be here before we know it. I'd be willing to put some coin that you'll bag some nice one's next season. wink.gif

You got the right attitude and thats what pulls us through the tough times.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
