Hi Ho Silva and a Cuddyer Brain Fart !

Windy City Walleye Hunter

Your favorite whipping boy did OK today in my book. Thanks to Cuddyer for that hilarios gaff on third base. I don't know if anybody picked up on it but as Cuddyer was crossing the plate, thinking that there were two outs, did you notice AJ start walking to his dugout? He didn't want to tip Cuddyer to the fact that there was only one out and it worked as Cuddyer didn't realize his goof until it was too late. And how bout Javy with 7 strong innings???

So did Reyes give up more runs today than all of last year?

Looks like the man with one leg shorter than the other has been hitting the buffet line rather than the weight room in the off season.

Then Big Bad Bobby Jenks finishes things off against the heart of the Twinks line-up.

GOOSE EGGS!!!

Let the games begin! 1-Love Pale Hose.

You give AJ to much credit , he probably thought the same as Cuddy . Twins played poorly today and that gave the W-Sox a win . Shouldn't be enough to get the trash talk started , should it ?

Unfortunately I can back you up on Reyes. My less than ideal seats at the dome had me ten feet from Reyes as he warmed up in the pen. He's definitely been getting a second helping of taters. Neshek looked like the bat boy standing near him. smile.gif

I love Cuddy....but to say AJ was "decoying" him for the out is rediculous. AJ is as guilty as Cuddy!

I'll have to eat my words as I didnt think Silva could pitch a better game anymore. Chomp, Chomp. Crow never did taste well.

As far as AJ goes, he would like us to believe he knew there was only one out. Chicago can still have him.

Silvas performance was nice but I am not anywhere near ready to say he is "back". I was surprised more than encouraged. Lets see what his stats are by mid-May.. Jury is still out on this guy, IMO.

I am a die-hard Twins fan...but lets not get too excited about his performance today. He flirted with danger quite a bit. I think the weather hurt the hitters more than the pitchers and that made Silva look OK. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt that Silva will make it to Memorial Day as a Twins big league starter..

Cuddy will only amke that mistake once this year so I am glad it happened early in the year..

Every decent game Silva pitches gives the Twins time to prepare a younger pitcher. All Silva has to do is keep the Twins in the game so the offense can get it done. He is the #5 pitcher in my mind, and giving you a chance is all you usually get from the #5. Almost all teams have a Silva in their rotation.

"No game break down from Windy City Walleye Guy Today?"

I got him covered on the wrap today. The AL MVP drives in the batting champ. Yohaaaaaaaaan continues to own the Sox. They go about two hours without a hit. Then AJ chokes, game over. Did I miss anything Windy? grin.gif

Windy probably won't comment, he only likes to spout off when his teams are winning; he gets pretty quiet when they lose.

Sorry for the delay in posting. I had something to do today. Hosting the entire family for Easter din din. I think you guys did miss one thing, our rookie was every bit as good as YO-Han today. One bad pitch to Morneau that I would expect a MVP to hit and that was the difference. I'll take that performance from our 5th starter against the Twinks ace every day and twice on Sunday. We sent up our 4th and 5th starters while you trotted out your 1 and 2 (maybe 3). The way I sees it is that we aced you guys 3-0 and you beat us 3-1 seems like we are up a run??? Happy Easter to all you FM'ers we didn't lay any "Easter Eggs" but the Twinks did yesterday, OOOOOOOHHH Yea!

Nice spin. Let me try. The Sox were one swing away from being shut out today. Nobody pitches every bit as good as YO. Danks did pitch very well though. I'll give you that Windy.

Windy Silva is far from our 2 or 3rd starter, he is more like our 5th starter. Every game he pitches for the next month or so is an audition for him. If he starts to struggle they will yank him and bring up one of the young guns. That being said your young guy did pitch really well with the exception of the 4th inning. Also when Crain comes in I have come to expect him to give up at least one long ball, he go right after the hitters and that is bound to happen when you throw as many fastballs as he does.

Hey windy city closet twins lover Is that all you have is to pick out mistakes and our pitching I think you are mistaken thinking the sox are going somewhere this year where were they last year in the playoffs if you didnt know where our pitchers are there in here in minnesota after kicking ur ##? in chicago so they only plated two of the three there if you want to pick on a pitcher pick on silva he is the weakest link kind of like you he wont last here long next year he will be pitching for you kind of like AJ we like to trade or (Contact Us Please) off to teams that think they are good to make them good for one year

Windy,

#2 - Boof

#3 - Ortiz

#4/#5 are pretty interchangable between Silva and Ponson. Granted Silva pitched great on Saturday, but I'm not convinced its the Silva we will continue to see. It would not surprise me to see both Silva and Ponson out of the rotation come second half of the season.

Heck if Ponson doesn't show any better than last night he won't make it to the All-Star break.

Thanks for the feedback.   We have the time from hookset to release pretty short I think.  I read earlier this spring the average fight these days lasts 90 seconds or less.  I’ll admit I was amazed to hear that but after a half dozen muskies that have come to net this year, that’s no bull.  We usually have em netted on the first pass by the boat.  My 48 inch net allows one to do all the handling in the water while the other gets the bump board laid out and phone ready for a pic. A quick measure and quick pics and back in the water they go. Thats about as much as we can do.  70 degrees is lower than I expected to hear.  We were seeing those temps on opening weekend in Ontario.  We didn’t like seeing 80 last Friday on Leech.

What do you think of the "cut the hooks" method of dealing with Muskies?   Small bolt cutters to make the process fast.   Just wondering.
    • guideman
Typically temps over 70 degrees are considered dangerous for handling Muskies. The length of the fight and the time you take handling the fish will make a difference. That is one of the reasons we use heavy line and big rods, you don't want to battle the fish to the death. Skip photos on smaller fish and remove the hooks with the fish in the net, in the water, not on the bottom of the boat. "Ace"   "It's just fishing man"

Sylvia would have been my 1st choice, until it recently was discovered to have Stary Stonewart. Pretty devastating invasive. I'd bet Clearwater holds a state record large mouth bass. It also has strong walleye year classes.

I was able to get back out on Leech last Friday the 13th.  Had to take a day off work to get some fishin’ in! This time was strictly for muskies but bass and pike showed themselves anyway. 🙂  The morning waves were still rolling from either the night or Thursday and the lake was rougher  than expected at 6 am.  The forecast said 0-5 and eventually the wind did calm from the northwest, switch, and then proceed from the southwest.  The effect for us was basically almost a 180 degree switch while we were out there and we didn’t see any fish of any size after that.  I think the switch was complete by roughly 1 pm. The other thing that raised our eyebrows was the surface water temps.  We started seeing high 76’s right away on the main lake but climbed pretty quickly to 78-79 mid day and was topping out at 81 by the afternoon/evening.  This made us really want to focus on deeper weeds but weren’t having much luck locating them.  We just weren’t in the right part of the lake.  But that’s how you learn - by doing. Total muskie count for the day = 2; 1 follow (mid 40 class) and one boated (41.5).  The day went SUPER fast for 10 hours of fishing.  Black bucktails raised the two for us.  I had the follow, my partner caught the fish. The temps had us concerned about the fish but my monster 48 inch net enables us to keep the fish completely in the water until it’s time for a quick measure and pic. Still trying to come to grips on what’s too warm for fishing muskies.  This one was on the line for no more than 2 minutes, including the net time before the hooks were out.  Maybe another minute to get the phone and board out and glove on for grabbing it up.  Less than 1 minute to measure and photo, then back in the drink for an easy resuscitation.

Looking for walleye  and bass fishing mostly.   I did hear good things about Clearwater Lake.   My wife has been looking at houses and her focus landed on West Sylvia.  She could care less about the fishing. Have any of you heard good or bad things about Sylvia Lake?
    • FishinCT
I looked up the Mille lacs hooking mortality study on walleyes and it started to dramatically increase around 65 degrees. About 5% mortality at 65 degrees but about 25% at 75 degrees. I have to imagine the numbers are higher for muskies given an extended fight with a large fish, having to take more care to not get cut up or hooked yourself while unhooking the fish, temptation to take lots of pictures, etc.  Here's the study if you're interested http://mnmuskie.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Reeves-and-Bruesewitz-2007_factors-influencing-hooking-mortality-of-walleyes-Mille-Lacs.pdf

Went out the last couple days on Mille lacs, we had no problem finding fish, but the big fish eluded us... We got all sorts of year classes from 11" eyes on up to 24", which is a good sign... That big storm they got must have dirtied the water up, all the fish we found were on the top edge of the flats no matter how bright it was... Rigging leeches and crawlers were the best until we got some waves then the jigging rap was taking all the fish. The fish were stacked up on points of flats and narrow ridges on the flats... We tried pulling lead for a little while, but I've never done it so I had zero confidence in it haha.
    • james_walleye
DLD I'll keep rigging as long is I can keep catching good fish but entering into August I'll start to pull leadcore more.
    • Wanderer
Ace, honest question here with no intent to debate, just learning more about muskies. What surface temps do you consider to be too warm for handling muskies?
