I may show up, but I don't think I'll be competing. I'll have a couple 5yr. olds in tow and one of them has never fished before.

My directions may be a bit messed up, but isn't the fire station on the West side of Silver Lake? I won't be able to make it, but want to make sure those that do go to the right spot.

Thanks Andy,

Your right. I've made the change above.

We will meet in the park where the goose feeders are on the West side of the lake at 7:45. After that, everybody is free to take off and go to their "hot spot". Weigh-ins will be at the same place as registration.

I saw some people fishing from shore at foster today. Looked like they were casting from the beach area. Lots of open water there.

I'll work on posting the results tonight. I was fortunate enough to grab the first place winnings with 4 crapps (2 white, 2 black) and 4 sunfish.

My 2.13lb carp took big fish as well.

I think Dan-o has to be the hands down favorite tonight. I saw him Sat. driving up and down between Hammond and Zum. Falls scouting.

Word of advice for folks...with all the high water the banks can be kinda dicey so be careful when getting close to land fish. Long handled nets are recommended and maybe even waders could be used. My bets are that somebody comes back either real wet or real muddy.

All I was doing was making room for more people. Clearing brush and picking up garbage. The one place I have in mind we call the Long Hole. It will accomodate 6-8 people pretty easy. You guys are welcome to toss a line in up there with me if ya want.

Sounds like a great place to start. I'll likely join you.

Yep, Dan has to be a favorite for this event. He spends lots of time on the ZR and knows it well. Plus he nearly lives right on it, so that helps.

Been there, done both. I've got the long handled net loaded.

Hi Guys,

How did things go last night? I was unable to make it but might try that stretch of the Zumbro this weekend for some rough fish fun. Any bait / techniques work better than others? Thanks.

Well, Tyler should have the results up soon but from what I can recall there were about 10 people maybe a few more than that. The biggest was a 4.6 something and it wasn't by me. I caught at least a dozen but nothing over 3.5 so I never even got to place.

Good times though. Tylers net was funny, Droid going skunkie for most the night, and then some kid getting into the double digits and winds up winning it. Way to go Alex! laugh.gif

Techniches, a crawler on a baitholder #4 with a sliding sinker stopped at about 18" up. Current seams worked the best. Just on the edges of the calm pool and current edge.

Good times! Fished w/ three buddies, and I think we landed 16 fish w/ most over 3lbs. I personally caught a couple in the twelve inch range that made me wish I had my cooler. I've been wanting to try and smoke some (in the smoker) and I wanted to slice a couple up for cut bait. Thanks Tyler! Looking forward to the Root River event. I've never fished it so it'll be a good time.

UPLR Pictures and Results

Or next event is Monday April 16th at Lake Zumbro. This will be our first open water event on the Zumbro and they are calling for 51 degree's high temp. Sounds like a nice day in the boat to me.

They are calling for a high of 56 degrees on Monday and sunny. Perfect boating and fishing weather. I'm expecting a good turnout and the fishing should be really decent.

$10 to enter and 100% payback.

Can't wait.

5:15 registration at the Ponderosa public boat ramp. Blast-off is 5:30.

Haven't seen you for a while Greg. Stop out if you can. The weather is going to make this a fun event with or without fish.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
