I would like to thank Fisherdog for helping me find my dogs. It did not turn out like I had hoped, but at least I know what happend.

Well, I got a phone call this morning. A guy saw two dead dogs in a ditch about 7 miles from my house. I went out and found them both shot and dumped. The dogs still had their collars and tags on. I'm very disapointed in the person or people who did this.

They only good thing is I know what happend so I have some closer.

I did file a report with the Becker County Sheriff and if given the opportunity I will press charges. Its very unlikely anything else will come of this.

thanks to this forum I found my dogs.

I'm so sorry it ended that way...what is up with people. I don't understand this type of behavior. But I guess, as you said, you have closure. I hope something comes of this, and I hope whoever has engaged in this behavior is brought to justice! You know that everyone will keep their eyes and ears open for you. Good luck! mad.giffrown.gif

I have two labs at home and it hurts to hear something like that. I have no time for non-people like that. They are disgusting animals and I do not mean the dogs.

I can't tell you the pain I would feel if they were my dogs. My fist response would be looking for retribution. That is never a good idea, but I am Da Hitman.

Sometimes I think that dogs are better human beings than we are.

Hang in there -- It will get better.

I can't even begin to tell you how sorry I am to hear that. It continues to amaze me the kind of pitiful, disgusting people that are out there. Again, sorry to hear about this.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I had seen your posts and wondered what could have happened, and even though I am far away from DL..I kept them in my thoughts.

I have 2 labs myself, they are my "children". Sometimes they sneak away for a walk and I was hoping this was the case, and they would return.

My condolences for your losses. frown.gif

I am very sorry to hear about things turning out this way. I was really hoping for it to go the other way, but at least you have some closure. People that do things like this will get theirs. I have always believed that what goes around comes around.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. People can be so cruel sometimes...I just dont understand such behavior. I, too, am a big believer in Karma...what goes around comes around...and they will get theirs in the future.

My kids would be in very tough shape as well -- just can't think about why somebody would do such a thing.

Hey httrk4me I am sorry to hear about your dogs, I ran across this on the free listing, this would be from a fellow FM er sounds like a nice dog this is under the free listing

Free to good home. Female black lab. 8 months old. her name is Lena. Shes a wonderful little pup. Shes petite. 44 pounds and still growing. She needs a home the will give her the attention that she nees. I am unable to give her that. Shes been on duck and goose wings since 7 weeks and swims like a fish. She sits, stays, heels and retrieves to hand most times. She also stops dead in her tracks to "NO BIRD" when retieving. She shakes on both paws and speaks for a treat. Loves rawhides and plays with small children well. She has been well socialized with other dogs and gets along good. Just wants to play. I work with her as much as I can but work has increased to the point shes in the kennel for way to long. It breaks my heart to have to do it. She still needs work with house and kennel training. I do have all her paperwork with blood line and AKC application. She has not been registered yet. She will be upto date on all shots and spayed should you choose. I want to find a family or a person that can spend more time with her. Shes a wonderful dog I hate to give her up. I just want for her to happy.

I live in the Chisago area an work in Forest Lake. I do have pic and will try to post them. Or I can send them to you via email. Please feel free to contact me @ 651-257-1704

Or email me at [email protected]

thank you for your intrest

I appreciate it. I have already put my name in for another pup. It’s a litter from the same parents of my lost dog, so essentially I’ll be getting a brother to Thor.

But, My Neighbor maybe interested. I will email it to him. It just so happens he is going to the final 5 in St. Paul, so maybe he could

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
