How to remove icons from H2O screen

Gadgetman

Question

Anybody know how to take the icons and associated waypoint name down from the screen. I have been trying to use the lakemaster chip but whenever I get close to any previous waypoints I have on the lake the icon and waypoint name come up and make it very hard to read the contour lines in the area. Is there a way to hide them when you dont want to see them, and bring them back when you want them again?

I don't believe there is any way to hide them when you don't want to see them. It would be nice if they were represented as dots once you zoom out, I know what you mean about them getting in the way. Mille Lacs as well as other bodies of water are nothing but waypoints on my screen when zoomed out.

Even if the actually icon couldnt be hidden it would be great if the names could be made to disappear. Like you say when I look at some of my favorite lakes they are just one big jumble of letters. If it was just the icon, say the one little fish one, it wouldnt be too bad. I just have to believe that there is a way. Maybe I will have to call Lowrance. If nothing else maybe it would give them an idea for a future upgrade

Menu -> Map Categories Drawn... -> Uncheck 'My Waypoints,' 'My Icons,' 'My Trails,' or whatever category you want. Maybe you need to be in Advanced Mode.. ?

I'm hoping that a future software update on these units includes more usable waypoint icon choices and that the waypoint icons would get smaller as you zoom out, maybe just colored dots.. ?

Thanks Schweady, I guess that I never got into that area...that helps a lot. I think that I will leave the icon up and just eliminate the name of the point. I agree with you that it would be nice if it just automatically disappeared at a certain scale of zoom. But I am much happier now. Thanks again

I just got an H2OC and a lakemaster chip. Is there a way to remove the pop-up lake name that pops up right above the curser when looking at a map. I think its usually in a yellow text box...just kind of annoying. I tried many things but couldn't figure it out yet. If anyone knows...please post. Thanks! FL Sniper

Try this:

Ok here you go this will fix it. There is a bug in the software I am thinking.

Menu - Map Data - Uncheck Popup map **** Power off

When you turn it back on it will be gone.

There is something wrong that it won't save if you don't power off.

Sweet...I will try that. Ya...I know where you're talking about...I would uncheck the "pop up" box and go back to the map and the pop ups would still be there...so then I go back to the menu and the "pop up" box would still be checked. I thought maybe it was because I was in some "easy" mode or some default setting. Thank you very much Ralph...I hope it works like you say! How the heck you figure that out? And is there any other unique things like that?

Thanks again...I will try it out tonight and let you know.

Acts exactly the same way on my ExpeditionC. You have to turn it off right after unchecking the box and while you're still on the Map Data page. I remember doing this successfully before, but now with ver. 1.1 of the software installed, it won't do it without this kludge... Lowrance: if you're listening, fix the relative waypoint icon size thing when you fix this one, okay?

I wonder if this is fixed in the new 1.5 upgrade for H2O's.

Doubtfull!

Here's what Lowrance says version 1.5 did for the H2O:

"Fixed the Home Waypoint button in Easy Mode

Includes all features from previous updates, including:

Increased support of Navionics® GOLD charts

Minor power modification

Enhanced support for more electronic charts features

Modified the 'Distance to your destination' feature for smaller units (i.e. feet, meters)

Minor modifications"

It's been nearly a year since the color units got a software upgrade. You'd think there'd be plenty of room in the memory of those things for additional waypoint icon designs, better options for default names of new waypoints, different waypoint sizes, etc etc.

OMG! That was driving me CRAZY.. The lake name pop up. I will try this, and thanks for the tip! Hey Lowrance GPS customers... I have another question. My Lakemaster chip says I can make one copy for an archive, which I would like to use in my boat GPS unit. For the life of me I can't seem to copy the Lakemaster chip data into a SD card and have it read in my hand held. Has anyone had luck copying it into a useable format with Map Create? Any ideas?

Ouimon,

Lowrance will allow you to make a backup copy of the LEI LakeMaster datafile for your protection only. You can copy the contents of the chip to a file on your hard drive and if something happens to the data file on your chip, you can restore the data file.

The magic behind all this is that there is a code on the chip and only THAT CHIP will display the file on your Lowrance device.

If you attempt to copy the data file to another chip, it is lacking the code and although the Lowrance device will acknowledge the presence of the file, it will not display the data. This is the way they protect their investment and it's a tough nut to crack.

That's the rules as they were explained to me by the Tech Center at Lowrance.

Good Luck

Jack

Thank You, Jack. I will stop beating my brain against the wall then. It was interesting to see the Gull Lake map on their website has the correct code to display contours in the GPS using a standard SD ram card! I'm no hacker, but I do try to test the system a bit. I even tried saving it as the same file type as the Gull Lake map... Which didn't work either :-)

Thank you for the information! Paul W.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
