Heading up to Snowbank

Recommended Posts

Heading up to Snowbank this coming weekend. Any info about the lake would be Very helpful. We'll be fishing on the part out of the park. I'm going up with a guy that know's the lake pretty well but thought I could also use some of the "expert" advice here. Thanks; Strat

strat-o-caster,

First time I've ever written to a guy named after a guitar grin.gif

I just talked to Denny at Smitty's on Snowbank and he said the ice is about 24-30 inches, getting a few trout in 55-75 feet, but the biggest ones have been caught about 15-20 below the surface (suspended)in various depths. His guests are seeing quite a few fish on the vexilars/cameras. Not too much info, but hope this helps. smile.gif

Hey Jim,

I think you should call in sick on Wed.- put the closed sign up for the day, then you and I go out there, pound on some big honkeys, and then come back here and tell everyone how we crushed 'em out on Snowbank! Man, I am getting the itch!! Wednesday is my last day of freedom until November 15 frown.gif

Justin,

I'll have to check the schedule, but could not go to Snowbank, that would be blasphemy mad.gif, have to be Burntside smile.gif Then have to see if the 6x6 Polaris will fire up,& try to find my rods and tackle. Really don't know what you mean by last day of freedom, 'cause when you're retired, every day is Friday! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Yeah, sorry about hijacking the post there grin.gif Anyways, I have heard there have been a few fish caught out there lately. Don't be afraid to move around to different depths-even 28-35 FOW. That's about all I know-goood luck!

Tough conditions this morning. Got tired of picking up decoys that were tipped over.  Post some of your waterfowl hunting pics Leech.

Just so we're clear. You left this kind of harvest to drive around in 70 degree weather for 4 hours a day, why again? 😕

Oh then your right, the DNR wouldn't be able to tell what it is until at least June!  😏  😆

Snow?!  Hadn’t heard.  I’m still in Nodak and it’s been sunny and 69-70 degrees for highs!  Big wind yesterday but not so much today.  Birds are around but you have to look for em.  Been driving about 4 hours a day scouting.

Holy snow!! It was coming down this morning around 8 am. Had geese flying but could not see them. Got buzzed by many flocks looking the wrong way as I could not look into the wind and snow. Had plenty close enough but never fired a shot. Off to the rifle range tomorrow with the old man.

Well was able to get out in the kayak this afternoon as the wind went down was out for about 15 min and around 4pm while making my usual trolling pass on the green weed lines. I hooked up with a 36” 8.5lb northern! On a #6 Fire tiger flicker shad again using my baitcast rig with 30 braid. I paddled to the beech as I had no net or anyway to land it from the yak. As I was coming in my rod slipped out of my rod holder. I said ohh $&@! And figured well that’s a rough day. But for some crazy reason my rod and reel combo floated!! No sure how but it stayed right on the surface. I had no extra floatation on it either. All I can say is I think I had some special people watching over me today😉Retrieved the rod and locked it in the holder and made it to the beech and fought it the rest of the way in. By far the biggest fish from the kayak for me and one heck of a story. Well I think that was a great way to end the season.

It's a small lake. Have ice fished out there in the winter. There is some decent crappies out there.  Never fished in the summer time. I want to say max depth is 25-30.

yep, lotta lead on the sippi from this guy. LOL  sometimes I do a simple drop shot setup. tie a #4 hook on and leave about a foot or less of line. then just pinch the split shot on bottom and jig away. didnt have to tie on so many hooks.

Nice report! Glad to see there are others still getting out on the river too. I need to get simpler in my presentation and use the fathead/split shot technique more often. I can’t afford to lose 3 swimbaits or rapalas each time out. 😭

dont talk yourself out of it. might hit a couple spots again this coming week for fun. Over the years I have had off and on luck till thanksgiving time. Couple pics from this fall.  I just like a fathead on 1/8 oz jig or a plain hook with a split shot. Quite the battle when the 28 inch northern tried to eat the bass. It got stuck on the jig so reeled them both in. Ran into the current two times. Fight city. LOL
