Fishing Report For The Weekend 1/26 thru 1/28

Recommended Posts

The Cranker

Hello everyone,

First of all our condolences are with the family and friends of the gentleman that lost their life a couple of nights ago on the south end of the lake. Life is a very precious gift and sometimes we don't treat it as it is.

With that being said; everyone PLEASE don't risk taking any chances on the lake. Don't speed (15MPH),Don't take short cuts. Always take the marked roads!, Don't drive around recklessly doing spinouts and crazy stuff like that. The lake needs respect from everyone.

Ok, here is my report for the weekend.

Sunset Bay;

Perch and Walleye being caught in the bay and on the reef. In 10ft to 24ft of water. Most of the fish are being caught on rattle reels and deadsticks with a plain red hook. The fishing has been again spotty, with some really big walleyes being caught. Another couple of pigs caught this week out of our resort! We have have now caught 9 walleyes in the past three weeks that have been caught that are over 28 inches! The walleye bite tends to be better in the early morning and evening and nightime. Perch mid morning thru the day.

Shiners, Rainbows, and Fatheads working on set lines with the walleye. Small crappie minnows and larva,grubs on perch. Also a few walleyes on the larva/grub worms!

Fishers Resort;

Talked with Dean, and Dean is reporting that they are getting large fish too. Some are doing better than others on perch. Walleyes are tending to bite early morning and evening and nighy time.

Fish are being caught in 12ft to 30ft of water. Walleyes are going on shiners, fatheads, and rainbows. Perch on fatheads, crappie minnows and grub and larva. Again on set lines!

Hunters Point Resort;

George is still reporting some good fishing on Blue Jug, and the Boot, Eight Mile, and Nine Mile, Flamingo, and Lakeside Reef. Again, staying mobile and moving around on these structures will increase your chances of catching fish.

Fish are being caught on Shiners, Fatheads, Rainbows for walleyes. Fatheads, Crappie Minnows and grubs/larva for perch.

George is also saying their are allot of big walleyes being caught out of his area too!

This weekend looks to be great weekend to be out enjoying Lake Mille Lacs fishing. Call you favorite resort and get your reservations in for a fish house!

Have fun and above all be safe. And also help keep the lake clean pickup any trash that you may see on the lake and throw it into the dumpster.

Have a great weekend fishing!

Fish On!!!

Thanks for the report Cranker. Lori and I are heading up to Appeldoorns in the morning and have rented a cabin for the weekend. We were up last weekend, stayed in a cabin and had a great time so we decided to make the short 2 hour drive again this weekend! I was planning to leave my ATV home and drive my truck out to Doe Island. Any thoughts or recomendations?

Be safe & enjoy life everyday ! smile.gif

Hey Cranker,

Coming out of your place in the AM. Do you get out to the mud much? which is producing better for you, gravel, rocks or mud? just trying to eliminate some unproductive time tomorrow.

by the way, thanks for your weekly fishing info! smile.gif

MuleShack,

I have been getting most my fish all over. There really hasn't been a significant difference in the depth or structure. The fishing has been tough. They are their but are not biting!

Fish On!!!

I am with Cranker fished today 1.26 all day marked fish most of the day most of which were perch, they didn't seem interested in anything I had to offer. Best luck for me was on a purple spoon with a shiner. Hope everyone has better luck than me!

      Popped down for half hour to check a spot this morning and only one showed up for a pic. Water is up 2 feet from 2 weeks ago. Hope to try a spot north of town tuesday.

      Ok, so all the biologists, scientists, and compiled data is wrong and you're right.  Lets rape and pillage the lake until there's absolutely nothing left.  Great idea tfin.  In fact, maybe when the walleyes are all gone we should harvest all the muskies, smallmouth bass, and pike in the lake too.  And then blame the DNR for it.  Go fly a kite

      I was out 2 weeks ago from today and it was still pretty good.  Water temp was 54.  I don't plan to go again now because my boat is winterized.  My Father said it has been miserable the past week because the water got so cold so quick.  It looks decent this week for weather but deer season is fast approaching so I have to prepare for that now.

      No ice in Stuntz Bay yet but I did lift the boat out of the water onto the boathouse deck.  Easy to drop it back in if the water is soft after I get my deer.

      I took a trip this August to Buffalo River State Park to wade in the river while hitting the holes. My brother and I caught a variety of fish from red horse and chubs to a clam. All fish were caught on worm chunks. This spring/summer I want to use my new 5wt fly road and see what I catch

      Let’s get them 22-27 inch fish out of the lake

      I think anybody can see that the food/forage base is or has declined in Mille lacs.......having a lot of large fish doesn't help it at all. I think they should thin the herd.

      Well was a sad day today indeed. Got the kayak all vacuumed out and cleaned up. Then hung it in it’s winter spot in the shed. Trailer got a cleaning to. But until next year so long open water. Time to finish putting the open water gear away and finish getting the ice gear out.

      10/21/18     I have hunted in the Hutchinson area the last two weekends with my Dad, son, and some friends. Dakota ducks are trickling through central MN as the calendar migration has begun. With strong NW blows before or during the past two weekends, we have harvested mallards, gadwalls, redheads, bluebills, canvasbacks, and ringnecks, as well as a couple of geese hunting from a boat blind on some shallow lakes. This calendar migration should continue over the next couple weeks whenever we can get a strong NW or West wind. It will take some more cold and frozen water in Canada to get the big Canadian birds to come down--hopefully that happens before Thanksgiving. Good luck, and I will see you out there somewhere.

      Snow?  Yeah I finally ran into some today.     And I HAD to get them on the tailgate! 😅   And that is one of the reasons to leave that stuff in MN for a little while.  😎
