They are still biting but slowing down. My neighbor was out there yesterday and they caught a few. I absolutely can't believe how many fish have been taken out of that lake.

That one was a hair over 14 inches. i never weighed it but it was the biggest perch i have caught. I seemed to have the best luck early in the morning before the crowd shows up. Fun time.

Are you going to be out there this weekend? I'm putting my perm out on Lime in Avoca. I won't be in it on Saturday but the Mrs and I will be there on Sunday. If you're in the neighborhood come on by. I'm setting it right off the HWY 59 landing.

Nice one Bill, I got one that tickled the 15 inch mark in early jan there. They are dandy's aren't they.

Boiler, what do you catch on Avoca? always have seen people off the highway there but just figured they were spearing or something????

We have had some good luck on east the past week, and then again, we have had some dead days too. But I did get one real nice yellow belly. don't be jealous boys, i threw it back for you.

I have not, but my buddy has stayed there all season so far and had good luck in the last week being all by his self without any houses around him. best luck though has been late night. I can't do that.... fell asleep at East graham Wednesday night and woke up at 2am to a rattle reel... Yep, whiskered yellow belly... Then you know you need to go home. Let's just say Thursday was a bit of a struggle.

Heading to Bean today. Then gonna try to clean out some stunted perch at a buddies farm pond.

Lime in Avoca is mostly perch and northerns. Right off the highway landing people are either spearing or catching northerns.

Would it still be worth fishing this lake? I live about 1 1/2 hours away, long drive if they are not biting. I would like to catch one for the wall.

I have not heard anything recently, I have not got a report since mid January and then it was fairly slow.

Wow Nice Catch, Im Curious if you were using the old sucker minnow trick and letting them troll around, cant wait for the open water adventure with you, I think this year we have to get some sort of wager going with the other boat, I have a feeling we might be able to take them. Hope all is well Hey would you be interested in a day trip to Mil Lacs for some late ice perch, if so let me know. I need to get away from here for a day.

That's doubtful with the warm forecast.

Just learned that someone broke through on Reno last night. He was pulling his 7'x12' fish house with his ATV and dropped the back of his fish house through on 3" out in the middle of the lake. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and he was able to somehow get it retrieved this morning. I guess they had to go over 100' from the front of the ATV to find 10" of ice.

Seeing a lot of greenheads and swans around the metro.  It seems every bit of open water is packed.  I took advantage of some opportunities to film some trumpeters and put a little holiday cheer to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQu99MI1Y6Y

I found a old trolling motor at a garage sale for like $5-10 bucks, cut the head and motor off of it and used the pole and bracket to clamp on the ducer on my last canoe.

It should be able to I can shoot through my kayak if I wanted. Canoe should be the same. There great units. Good price and a solid fish finder

I just saw this online.  What would be the best way to mount the transducer?  Could it shoot through the floor of the canoe?   Humminbird® PiranhaMax™ 4 Sonar PT Portable tranducer, case, rechargeable battery and charger Tilt-mount base makes the screen easy to view 256-color 4.3" 480 x 272 screen DualBeam explores down to 600 ft. 2,400-watt peak-to-peak power output Featuring a portable transducer, portable case, rechargeable battery and a wall charger, Humminbird's PiranhaMax 4 Sonar with PT delivers a compact package for on-the-go fishing adventures. Anybody know anything about this lake? Just north of Ely.
    • AlwaysFishing23
Welcome Rick! I use a Humminbird piranha max 4 (non DI). I mounted it in a vexilar Genz case and I use the genz soft pack on it to help protect the screen from scratches. I used it all last summer in the kayak and it worked PERFECT. I use the humminbird suction cup mount and it works well. Even used it on a smaller aluminum boat and it never came off even on plane. This setup to me is ideal for anyway wanting a cheaper rig that works very well IMO.

I want to set up the canoe with a portable transducer so that it can be used in the boundary waters and portaged, etc.  Anyone have ideas on the set-up and what sonar would be a good choice?   I probably don't want too hi-tech so I can conserve battery life.
