There was a brief shot of the RP, They had to shoot out of their boat for sponsor resons. It made it real tough fishing because we could not get to where the fish were because of having to use the big Ranger boat. But I got R done. It was pretty crazy going through 2 feet of water and churning up mud with that big boat just to get where we did LOL LOL ... We used the RP for the camera man a lot so they could move around and scout spots to fish.. Bruce Mosher drove my RP.. It was a real blast though.. Hope to do it again this summer.

Wiskers, watched you last night, thank you for TIVO. That was an awesome segment, especially after growing up on the red and fishing those stink baits for those big hogs, brought back the memories...great job! I bet it was amazing watching that big ranger plow through some mud and sludge... blush.gifgrin.gifblush.gif

I am waiting for a DVD from them but it will be a while. I have it on DVR but still trying to find a DVD recorder, or VHS.... I will let you know if I get it figured out.

It was a blast but it was soooooooooooooo hot..... We plowed through some major mud to get there.. Seeing that big Motor churing up the bottom of the Red was a bit nerving.. LOL....

It looked HOT, no wind and just one of those sweltering valley summer days, yeah I bet it was something seeing that motor churning mud must have been a little different...great show though!

Hey Thanks BIG... It was one of the hottest days of the summer.. It was pretty odd to be in a boat that chursn mud and my boat parked a few feet away with a BIMI top and camera man in the shade.. LOL....... We could have gotten more and better fish but we could only go so far with that big Ranger boat.

I'm gonna let you in on a secret that I discovered many years ago on a lake that had low numbers of very large Crappies. We all know that sunset is a time when Crappies become hungry and active. They seem to appear out of nowhere and after a half hour flurry of action, they disappear just as quickly. Often when fishing this lake I would get a bite or two if I was lucky. One night a friend and I were set up in my usual spot and right on time, we started catching fish. We ended up catching over a dozen 13.5"-15.75" Crappies that evening. About halfway through the action, as we realized we were doing much better than I ever had on that lake, my friend commented on the full moon. It was just peeking above the trees, and the beautiful sunset was on the opposite horizon. Not realizing what provoked that prolonged action, we both were eager to go back 4 days later. I got 1 fish, he had 1 bite, as was typical for the lake. Puzzled, we were talking about our last trip, and we came to the conclusion that the sunset and moonrise combo was the cause of the outstanding action. People talk about the full moon creating better activity "because the fish can see better". I am VERY convinced that is NOT the reason.  Musky fisherman know about the power that the moon has. With moon rise, moon set etc. being times when a big fish is more likely to strike.  Other fish like huge Crappies feel the power as well. When the moon is full, moon rise and sunset occur at about the same time. The combination of both high percentage times at once creates a MAGICAL window that occurs once per month.  Since then I have capitalized on this monthly occurrence many many times, for walleye, eelpout and musky as well as the crappies. It is way more than just a coincidence it is MAGIC!! Sometimes the days before and after the full moon are also excellent, occasionally 1 is even better than the full moon night. But any time you are planning a trip for a challenging species or difficult location try to be there at that magical period and you will improve your odds of success.  It doesn't matter if its cloudy and the moon is not visible the magic is still there. Hopefully you can unlock the potential of a lake with this little tip.    Remember that C.P.R. (Catch-Photo-Release) is key to catching bigger fish as well as the key to the future of fishing.

Out tonight with the kids, honeycomb ice on the top 2 inches with water over the sheet of thick ice. Exposed shorelines are soft, my dog and kids broke through while walking. Even though the shores are shot for driving I’m guessing we’ll have good walkable ice (waders) for a while...

Haha - ya I spose!  Only we weren’t shooting paper.  Painted steel hanging targets with a spotter and spotting scope. Drive to em to paint em but no retrieval.

Got out for a couple hours yesterday. West end of Francis again, several small sunnies but no crappies this time. Access is pretty beat up, need waterproof boots but the ice is holding up so far. Couple guys had an Argo out.
