I'm itchin to get up north and thought I'd start another post to see who else is going to be up on Mille Lacs. Myself and 3 other buddies will be staying in one of Cranker's houses. We'll be driving a grey Durango. Stop on in and say hi. Good luck and please be safe this weekend.

We'll be there Sunday. We will be on the north side of the lake somewhere. If anyone sees a red chevy with an american flag in the back and a white chevy with duck decals in the window and a greenhead gear sticker on the tailgate, that will be us. Feel free to say hi.

If everything lines up correctly, I will be up there on saturday, maybe flying solo, but definately going out of appledorns. They are located closer to the area's I fish on the pond. I drive a tan colored f-150 super crew that looks like a golf ball. I will be in either a one man voyager or the two man voyager.....

never mind, the warden just put the kabash to that plan. We need, I mean, I get to paint this weekend

Thanks, KSW

3 FM'ers, and 5 guests will be on Myr Mar Fri-Sun... Any action up there, or do we bring an extra cooler of treats?

Would be great to meet fellow FM'ers. Stop by - Grey Suburban with White letters on the windows. Can't wait! Sorry about the post a couple weeks ago where I said they were out a few miles, guy who got the house for us though I meant where WILL they be, not where ARE they! 12oz penalty paid to anyone that stops by until they're gone. My error=your gain. grin.gif

2FM'ers and 4 guests out on Myr Mar. Staying with Garrison Sports. Hoke I will definitely be getting a cold one from you or I tend to travel like Eddy on Vagas Vacation so I probably won't need one. We will be in a Green F150 and a Blue Jeep Grand cherokee. Stop on in plenty of bottle bass to go around. Will be there Friday morning thru Sunday.

Bartz, I'll be pulling my black wheel house and a white F150 out of Appledorn's Friday night or Sat Morning. It sounds from the reports that the fish have been tight lipped this week. It would be nice if we can time it right to be there when it's time for the fish to put on a feedbag. Good Luck

I will be living the dream on Sat. on the wide open ice. Not sure where we are ending up, but we are bringing a first timer to Mille Lacs. Hopefully he is the lucky charm for my cousin and I. Oh yeah, it would be cool if he caught some fish too. Look for the blue clam (hahaha), feel free to ask for one of those 12 oz. adult treats. If you get an unwelcome response, you got the wrong house.

Seeing how there are a few of us going out, we should have ourselves a little contest. How about big fish, for bragging rights?

Good luck to you as well Glassguy. We'll be up there around noon on Firday and get set up for the evening bite. I'm going to pack the whole tacklebox and try to entice them with a varied mix of minnows and grubs. We're bringing up a Vex and a couple of cameras. If we have to I guess we can bring the popcorn and watch them not bite. grin.gif

I'm gonna let you in on a secret that I discovered many years ago on a lake that had low numbers of very large Crappies. We all know that sunset is a time when Crappies become hungry and active. They seem to appear out of nowhere and after a half hour flurry of action, they disappear just as quickly. Often when fishing this lake I would get a bite or two if I was lucky. One night a friend and I were set up in my usual spot and right on time, we started catching fish. We ended up catching over a dozen 13.5"-15.75" Crappies that evening. About halfway through the action, as we realized we were doing much better than I ever had on that lake, my friend commented on the full moon. It was just peeking above the trees, and the beautiful sunset was on the opposite horizon. Not realizing what provoked that prolonged action, we both were eager to go back 4 days later. I got 1 fish, he had 1 bite, as was typical for the lake. Puzzled, we were talking about our last trip, and we came to the conclusion that the sunset and moonrise combo was the cause of the outstanding action. People talk about the full moon creating better activity "because the fish can see better". I am VERY convinced that is NOT the reason.  Musky fisherman know about the power that the moon has. With moon rise, moon set etc. being times when a big fish is more likely to strike.  Other fish like huge Crappies feel the power as well. When the moon is full, moon rise and sunset occur at about the same time. The combination of both high percentage times at once creates a MAGICAL window that occurs once per month.  Since then I have capitalized on this monthly occurrence many many times, for walleye, eelpout and musky as well as the crappies. It is way more than just a coincidence it is MAGIC!! Sometimes the days before and after the full moon are also excellent, occasionally 1 is even better than the full moon night. But any time you are planning a trip for a challenging species or difficult location try to be there at that magical period and you will improve your odds of success.  It doesn't matter if its cloudy and the moon is not visible the magic is still there. Hopefully you can unlock the potential of a lake with this little tip.    Remember that C.P.R. (Catch-Photo-Release) is key to catching bigger fish as well as the key to the future of fishing.

Out tonight with the kids, honeycomb ice on the top 2 inches with water over the sheet of thick ice. Exposed shorelines are soft, my dog and kids broke through while walking. Even though the shores are shot for driving I’m guessing we’ll have good walkable ice (waders) for a while...

Haha - ya I spose!  Only we weren’t shooting paper.  Painted steel hanging targets with a spotter and spotting scope. Drive to em to paint em but no retrieval.

Got out for a couple hours yesterday. West end of Francis again, several small sunnies but no crappies this time. Access is pretty beat up, need waterproof boots but the ice is holding up so far. Couple guys had an Argo out.
