What works best as a "catch-all" (pun intended, sorta) line for the BWCA? Is there such a thing? I like Fireline or Berkely XT mono when I fish for smallies on the area rivers (SE MN, NE IA), but it looks highly visible on the ultra clear BDub waters (saw a smallmouth following my lure on South lake, if I can see the line....I'm betting the fish can)

So should a person spool up w/ one line to fish walleyes, smallies, perhaps pike....and then switch spools for deep lakers? (I only plan on bringing one rod). I haven't kept up on many of the new lines out there as what I have works for me. "Ain't broke-don't fix-it"

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Have learned much...great site!
Thx in advance

Id go with clear trilene XT. I found it to be the best all around line unless you like fireline or power pro. Im not real sold on fish being line shy unless its a very clear lake in winter. I often use high vis green line jigging and dont catch any less fish than others. Slip bobbing I would go clear line in a lighter test than usual.

Stren Magna-Thin. Love it for all fishing in the BW, except maybe for jigging for deep lakers, but the stuff is great. Even getting some of my buddies to use it after they have been hardcore Trilene guys.
Give it a try and remember to turn the spool upside down on the floor if you spool your own line on. This reduces back spooling.
Keep your line tight.

I usually don't pay as much attention to the name brands (alternate between Stren & Tilene, which ever is on sale) and almost always spool up with 6lb mono for eyes and smallies. Seems to catch as many fish as the guys using the "No See-um, Tournament Tested Super Clear Braided Superline" of the week. It'll also serve in a pinch if you happen upon some nice sized crappies in the spring or fall.

A lot of my B-Dub fishing is jigging 1/4 or 1/8 jigs. I just really like the feel of 6 lb line. If I were doing a lot of trolling cranks or even lindy rigs, I'd go to 8 lb. Usually don't bring extra spools, just extra rods. But then, we're in a boat with room to bring it. Your idea of the extra spool for Lakers is a good one. 10lb should suffice.

IBOT #129, B-Dub Chapter. (Or is it Metro Chapter? - I'm so confused)

I started using Cabela's ProLine in clear. I havent been able to notice a difference from Trilene and you get about 1500 yds for 6 bucks.
