The pond outside my window is completely frozen over. I hope we keep up this pattern of no precipt. with arctic blasts and it definitely won't be long. Time to sort through the gear...

Back bays of Tonka had skim ice on them this morning. Kind of surprised by that. High 40s and rain early next week will push off the ice over date.

I saw it too.. on a small pond... so SO sad. Can't believe it. My fishing is done.. all over.. for the long dark Minnesota winter.. can't believe I live here sometimes.

Lake Snelling off of Hwy 5 looked to have a thin layer over most of the lake this morning. My car showed 22 degrees this morning that should do the trick.

I saw a body of water of about 30 acres or so off 169 in Plymouth that was completely frozen over this morning. Warm weekend temps will melt it all off, but the next artic blast we get may be interesting.

Forest Lake is starting to ice up in the bays. The area in front of Willow Point was almost frozen all the way across.

Buffalo lake had a thin skim near shore this morning. Slyster, Never fear the river bite is just starting go really go. So don't put that boat away yet. Just bust out the propane heater, the ice fishing suit/cold weather type, warm gloves, w/hand warmers, and hit the river.

I'm heading out to WBL on Sunday.. any ice should melt for the day.. and a lake as big of that I'm sure has no ice yet.

Today... shocking... KELLER lake... TOTALLY iced over at 4:00pm.... very very thin of course.. but it was covered shore to shore.

I started an ice map and ice conditions thread in the ice fishing forum. If anyone is interested in contributing ice information in the metro area, besides posting here, shoot me an email.

  • 2 weeks later...

I saw several lakes and ponds in the NE metro today that were iced over. Looks to be a teaser though with the current forecast. Come on cold weather!

owasso was 99% skimmed yesterday. wont be like that this week, but it wont be long now. one good week of below zero weather and no snow would be nice.

I saw ice over the weekend!..... in my Manhattan. smirk.gif

I'd pull my boat out if it wasn't already winterized.

I think we're still a month away, at least here in the cities.

We were out on white bear last night. We had to quit fishing because the ice was forming around us and it was to hard to keep the lines wet. It looked like it was iced up fairly well over by the bridge and around the island.

Centerville and Peltier were completely covered with ice sunday and monday. Had to break through alot of ice to get out to a good hunting spot. The ice was probably a 1/2 an inch thick, and every 1/2 hour or so we had to go into our decoys and break the ice up. Ice fishing cant be to far away!!!

Lake Smetana here in Eden Prairie was skimmed over yesterday, but with temps last night in the mid 30's with a south wind she opened back up. Still some ice but with temps going for 55 this week, it'll all melt.

We are one strong cold front away, but it just needs to stay for a bit.

Well, my boat is officially put away now. With the cold blast coming, things ought to be locked in by the weekend. Any predictions on when we'll have relatively SAFE ice to fish on?

End of next week Cal. Maybe we can make a visit to our little honey holes by next Wed. I am ready to go.

You think by next week, eh Mark? I didn't think it would be ready by then, but you never know; I'm anxious to hit the ice! Carp, did you ever get the portable you wanted? I'm hoping I can get a deal on a new Fish-Trap Guide toward the end of the ice season. Cyberfish's trap he gave me is good for another year and that's about it.

I may buy it tommorrow; Fleet Farm has it on sale for 30 bucks lower than anyone else. Are you going to the Ice Show in Saint Paul this weekend? Next weekend if we don't have good ice in the metro, would you be in on driving abit north for a day trip?

I can't make it to the ice show, but I know cyberfish wants to go. Maybe you could hook up with him? As far as the day trip is concerned, that's a possibility. We'll see how things are looking in a week.

I hope so, but am not holding my breath. Last year there was 6" on one of my favorite little lakes in one area and guys were fishing in that area. Started to walk out along an adjacent shoreline with the spud and found that I was on two inches of soft ice. Hoping for the weekend of the 16th.

Well I hope we don't get that snow on the ice like we did last year--boy that screwed stuff up. I'm preparing to go ice fishing next weekend. I've noticed that if you go just abit north of the Cities that the temperature and forecast are signficantly colder than around here. I heard "Bro" Brosdahl call into Bear Facts and Fish Tales on Sunday night and he said he ice fished on 4 to 5 inches last Saturday in the Bemidji area.

I'll be out this weekend around Hinkley, there should be 2+ inches which is enough for us fool hearted individuals. grin.gif
