I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions of a location for a quick 4 day trip in the BWCA for walleyes/smallies.

Yearly I have a group of 6-9 guys in our late 20's, and we like to go in as far as possible on Day 1 and set up base camp where we can focus on fishing for 2 days.

We like to go to new places each year and so far we've set up on Insula, Ensign, Gun (from Angleworm), Friday Bay (Crooked), Vista, and Rose Lakes. Any ideas would be greatly welcome!

How about Lac La Croix? Awesome Walleye and Smallie fishing. Dont lip the bass or grab the walleyes in the water cause Mr.Pike will leave ya with less fingers! grin.gif

Thanks for the suggestion!

Is there a route that I could take that would get us there in a day? It seems like the lake is quite a ways out from any of the entry points . . .

Take the Nina Moose River entry point. Start early and you can make it in a day's paddle. Maybe cast a few lines in Agnes on your way through. Walleyes by the shores right after you come out of Nina Moose and plenty of Northerns in the bays.

You should be able to do the Nina Moose River route in around 10 hours if your in decent shape and travel light. We did it in 10 with 10 kids and stopped for lunch on end of Agnes in the process. If your real strong paddlers you can surely do it in less.

Do the Nina Moose entry point. Lac La Croix is a great lake, but in my mind Iron is just as good and I have several buddies who have witnessed 6-7lb smallies get away. They agree the state record swims in Iron.
Extra hour or soo to Iron, bottle portage is a muddy @###@, but worth it.
Iron is my favorite Bw lake next to Crooked if you have a week plus.
keep your line tight.

Thanks again for all the advice! Been crazy busy, and hadn't gotten a chance to check postings in a while. Definitely will consider Nina Moose route as an option.

One of the guys in my crew wants to consider the south arm of Knife Lake. Any strong opinions?
