Get rid of the float and use a #2 hook for minnows and a bigger long shank baitkeeper hook for liver and cut bait. that will increase your catch ratio a lot.

Last night I went to the Hwy 2 bridge and tossed out liver, worms, and chunks of minnows. The only thing they seemed to like was the minnows. The 1st bite I had almost yanked my rod out of y stick, so I grabbed my rod and opened the bail and let it sit to make sure it was still there. Whatever it was did not take the bait, I reeled in my line thinking maybe the bait had been striped and it was still on. So I tossed it back out again and at about 11:10 I figured I would leave since the bugs were really getting to me. I started reeling my line in fast to avoid another snag and it seemed a little heavy. I didn't think it was a fish at 1st because it felt like dead weight, that is until it started fighting. I was really impressed with the fight the cat put up for its size. The cat was probably a little over 2lbs, but I really thought different as I was reeling it in. I used a slip sinker with a floating jig about 2 feet from the sinker. Is there a better set up to use? I see that the other guy with his 1st cat post was using circle hooks, will using those make a big difference? How much space should you leave between the sinker and your bait?

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
