What's the better...um..sick day this week. The day it's raining and snowing or the day after? As the forcast stands now I'm thinking of taking Wednesday off.

Ironman, If I could pick a day to come down with scaup-itis I would pick Thursday, give the stiff NW winds another day to move some birds. Either day looks great though, rain, sleet, and wind.....perfect. I will be out thursday and friday, save some for me. Good luck

if you want to take a couple of days off, i would try tomm. you can get a lot of birds right before the front passes through. remember if its so bad out there you dont want to be out there the ducks dont either. there is a book called duck hunting in the 20 or 21 cententry (sp?) by 2 guys from wisc. you can get it from the local lib. good detail on when to hunt as fronts come through. big changes in the pressure are good signs. try to go just berfore the pressure drops (tomm) and after it settles thrus. hope this helps and good luck.

Well, the forcasts hour by hour, for now anyways is saying rain should be changing to snow right about shooting hours. So I think I'll be going tomorrow. I anticipate..or rather hope for a good shoot. Btw, I have an open seat if anyone is interested. Nice blind, around 50 dekes, boat and motor. Shoot an email..I'll check it tonight. dlluginbill @ aol . com

I've already switched with a fellow worker,I don't have to be until 12:00 thursday and work till 7:00 not a bad option to have when mother nature throws us a curve ball like this weather front.

Sure. The good thing is if you have too many cocktails and fall off the dock you will not have to worry about drowning.  People are going to have a long walk to go swimming out of the Waskish beach. Hard to believe that 3 years ago the dock floated up off the support poles so we had to put in a few longer ones. The dock was right up to the predator guard below the wood duck houses.

Hey would someone that lives close by the Hatchery let me know when they are stripping eggs this year? Shouldn't be too far off.

Here are a few photos taken off of my dock which is straight across the Pike River from the Hatchery. Only a day or two more before it opens up here on the river! The second picture is looking toward the dam.

Your Right! after clicking on the picture a couple times and zooming in you can see the big white head of the male hooded mergaser.

According to the Army Corp of Engineers weather station here in Waskish we have had a grand total of  1.29 inches of precipitation so far in 2018.  When we were burning the grass of there was still about 30% snow cover. The flames were hitting 10 feet high.

Nice to see there might actually be some ice melting up that way! jkrash, those are hooded mergansers though.   I might’ve called out my first woodie sighting this year as one of those too.  But nah!  I know what I saw had to be woodie! Haha! Seriously though, I’ve seen more, and more variety of ducks this spring than ever  in my life.  The late lake ice outs have made the river a diver Mecca.  I think I saw a few with Ely or bust signs on em too!  The bulk of woodies have been in the Little Falls area for about a week, some for a couple.  The hoodeds have been here for at least a month. They’re all coming though!
