Weekend Report

Well, it was opening weekend for waterfowl. Personally we saw a lot of ducks and geese early but when the season opened they had mysteriously disappeared. We ended up with one goose and a couple other opportunities for the weekend.

Saturday evening I went over to Koronis to give the walleyes a try for a few hours. I ended up catching 3 eater eyes and a couple of pike. One of the pike was a very nice one measuring 38 inches. All fish are still there as I already have a couple meals in the freezer. There were lots of boats out with the nice day. The fish seemed to start to turn on about the time I had to leave as I had an early morning appointment at the local duck slough. There were lots of shore fisherman and a few I talked to had been having some success.

So how was everyone else's weekend?

had a great time out at the cabin in the Belgrade area...my bro and I shot our limit of ducks on Saturday--mixed bag of BWT, GWT, Woodies, and Mallards

Sunday we ended up with 4 birds--a nice drake ringer, a young drake woodie, and 2 mallards (one of which had the full green head and was a giant).

Overall a great weekend to start the season. Can't wait for next weekend! Plan to get out around here once or twice this week also.

I finally made it to Koronis on Saturday. My son and I managed to catch 7 keeper walleyes, about 14-15". No big fish, just the nice keepers.

There were alot of boats out there, just a great day to be on the water.

Water temps were 57-58 degrees.

Fished all day on Sunday.

Started the Day on Rush. Did not get the numbers I had been getting out there, but did catch some quality fish. Water temp about 58, Fish caught in windy areas.

Went home about 1:00, fried up some fish for myself and Mrs. Musk.

Hit the Mississipe from about 2:30 untill sunset. Caught some smallies and a pike. Water temp was 65.5.

I was out on Lake Sarah on Saturday morning/early afternoon bass fishing. Pretty darn slow! Between my buddy and I we caught 10 largies in 4 hours. Biggest was a 4.5# pig my buddy got. Otherwise the bass were 1-1.5# average.

Beautiful day to be out!

On Koronis Sat and Sun. There were a lot of boats and fishing was slow, but steady, several nice walleye eaters. Lot of ducks overhead and beautiful weather.

I hope this analysis is wrong, but was doing some math trying to guesstimate when Lake V might go ice free.   As of today, the DNR shows only one lake in the state to be ice free: Pepin.  Pepin went out 20 days later than the median date and 4 days later than the nearest comparable cold year of 2013.   If we extrapolate this same delay to Lake V, then we are looking at an ice out in the neighborhood of May 20th or 21st.  Not quite the record, but close - and plenty late enough to screw up a lot of plans.  Like I said, I hope this analysis is flawed somehow.

Hey Guys,   Just wondering if any lakes are open or close to being open?  Got the itch to get the boat out and wet a line!

This has been an interesting thread.  Walleye wings is new to me and I am going to do this to provide a different experience.  Thank you all for sharing!!!

Good idea on the silicone spray definelty something to do every spring a big help to keep things sliding nicely. I use that stuff on anything that slides. On telescoping flip over poles for example.

Pulled it up front and went to work on it. Silicone lubed everywhere.  Quite a task taking the steel cover off underneath that protects the main drive but got er done. Zips right up and down with the attachment I got for the drill. Nice!

I found a very handy app for this. It's called onX Hunt Maps.  (I'm just a user) It's primarily designed for hunters that want to know where state/federal vs private lands are.  To see property lines etc. you need the paid (premium) version. The free version comes with a trial of the premium version for 7 days. But even the free version does quite a bit. It's pretty interesting for Vermilion because there is so much of each - private and state/federal lands. You can click on each parcel and it will even give the acreage, landowner names and tax address.  If I pull up to shore, I really want to know that I'm not trespassing. GPS works along with markers/waypoints. Maps can be stored for offline use so you  can use it without phone service or wifi. The free version comes with a trial of the premium version for 7 days. I added a zoomed out screen grab.
