I thought that I would see what you guys think about Ford and Chevy partnering up? I heard about it a couple of days ago.

Anybody else hear about this?

I was in alaska awhile back and everyone seemed to run the Ford duelies, I saw a fair amount of GMC and Chevy trucks out west hunting out there. My thought on this is: WOULD THEY MAKE IT A GOURD? They are all comperable for the price, might make it a bit cheaper if they did partner and us Ford and GM guys could really ride the guys that own a Dodge then, right? Bottom line, use what works to tow your boat/sleds from point A to B. We can all brag about the truck we have if we have one, however, I built a hitch for an old Subaru hatchback when I was in college to tow a 12' boat up to the Gunflint. The car was not made for towing but as a fisherman, I needed to pull my 12' boat to the lake to fish. Short on money and a ride that could get the job done I put a hitch on the 4 cylander 4 speed and towed away. I had a couple of great trips with that little car(all memorable) but if it can get to the water and do the things you have in mind for it then it is all good in my book! The Subaru in question was a hatchback with 4 speeds on the floor and low and high 4- wheel drive I hunted with it, put bucks in the back and for ice fishing it was awsome. How often is it that a person can get a car/truck unstuck on lake ice by themselves? Course when I had to tow out a few friends with their pickups, from ditches, the lake accesses ect. They didn't make fun of my little car from then on. So is it the brand, or the size of the truck that makes it what it is? I have typically always bought GM once I could afford it. I looked at the Fords, Chevy's, Dodge's and the imports and found that the crew cab GMC fit my price range and the applications that I have for transportation. By the way, I ran that Subaru over 150,000 miles and pulled my boat the whole time I owned it. Bottom line, I still have the boat, I sold the car 10 years ago. If the manufacturers can get together and put something on the road that we all can benefit from I say do it! Yeah, I am loyal to a brand but if they build a better truck/car then why not? The overseas markets are cashing in right now and working hard to take a domestic share in the states. Might just be 2 heads are better then one. My 2 cents.

DATSUN 4 EVER

I don't care who you are. That's funny right there.

Datsuns, lol! My Grandfather had a huge paper route for 20 some years and every year he would buy a new Volkswagen Beetle. Until they stopped making them here. Then he switched to the small datsun 4 dr. I forgot what it was called. His last one before he retired ended up being my older brothers first car, which, ironically, he used for a paper route wink.gif It was an overnight route for the Trib and I got to ride along and put the papers in the boxes one night when it was raining fiercely. We ended up in a ditch in about a foot and a half of mud. We walked to the nearest farm and had the owner pull us out with a tractor. I never got to go again because my Mom got freaked we went in the ditch. The car ended up becoming my cousin's and he used it in a couple stock/demo races before it was no more. I guess he liked racing because as far as I know he still does it. He races out of Brainerd, number 3 grin.gif Just my lttle Datsun story.

Although I drive Fords and have for many a year, it's because I understand them and feel comfortable with them.

Chevy's, GMC's, Dodges, they are all good, they are all pretty much the same, a drive train, a body, etc. They all do the same things, one isn't head and shoulders above the others, no Yugo's among them!

It's like debating steak, it's all good! grin.gif

Really? What is the motor in the almighty Cadillac?

From the respective websites:

2007 GMC Yukon Denali, Vortec 6.2L V-8

2007 Cadillac Escalade, Vortec 6.2L V-8

Denali XL and Escalade ESV utilize same motor.

The older Denali/Escalade use a Vortec 6.0L V-8

Escalade/Denali are the same vehicle with different body/interior accents. You just pay more for the "Cadillac" name.

After looking at both websites I found that a Denali with a 6.2 has 380 hp@ 5500 rpm and 417 ft lbs torque, while the Cadillac with a 6.2 has 403 hp @ 5,700 rpm / 417 lb-ft @ 4,300 rpm. More horsepower.....and the same torque at a lower rpm should equate to somewhat better performance due to a wider powerband. So, you really do get something more with the Caddy, although I'm pretty sure I wouldnt personally want to pay the difference.

Thanks Macgyver55 for looking that up. I've been out for a few days. The caddys are sweet, as long as you don't put those 26 inch rims on them. Hello people, do you know what that does to your tranny. I work in a shop for 10 years and seen more burnt trannys because of them.

Or better yet an H2 with 26 inchers. crazy.gifcrazy.gif

Scumfrog,

Does going with oversized tires on any vehicle do this, or is it just the rims? And is it dramatically different? I have 17's on my truck from the factory and I know that there are different trucks from the same manufacturer that have 15's or 16's I cannot remember. I know that the factory added the 17's (this was an upgrade), I did not notice the upgrade for a transmission. Am I going to run into troubles?

I have 20's on my Denali but would have preffered 22's ( no bigger). I decided on the 20's so I could still have a little tire and keep them on year round. My factory wheels were 17's. I sized my 20's correctly so that the speedometer isn't off at all, my buddy did the same with the 20's on his Escalade.

Now that 22's are become a more popular tire size I will probably upgrade on my next vehicle, that is unless I go with 18's and a lift.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
