Twins win+Tiger loss tonight =first place in AL central

With the momentum of our win against Boston last night combined with the Sox pistol-whipping the sinking Tigers last night, I like our chances of snagging the division lead from the Tigers. Sweet! Just hope I don't eat crow pie for breakfast tomorrow morn... crazy.gif

Indeed Buzz, indeed! What do you think about tonight? BTW, you been out fishing for the BIGGUNS lately? I haven't been out because of boat limitations, but I would suggest that you try that one area I showed you last year for the next couple weeks wink.gif.

WE need to get out again and hit Tonka! I was hoping Saturday morning would work out, I'm still not certain. If I can get out, I will let you know... are you available this Saturday morning? I haven't had alot of luck this year muskie fishing, but then again I'm usually taking photo's. shocked.gifwink.gif

About tonight, I see Morneau hitting a bomb off of Schilling with Boof keeping the spiralling Sox off balance. Twins 5 Red Sox 3

Available? yes! As you can see by my avatar, my boat is no match for yours. Actually, I've been plagued by boat motor problemas all year mad.gif. Fortunately I'll have things up and running again by next week, so that's good. Yeah, just let me know, buzz, and hopefully we'll get a big toothy in the boat. You still got my e-mail address?

No call on the Tiger/Sox game?

Yes, I have it and will let you know by Friday okay. I stole your muskie candy holder idea - PVC tubes in a bucket! It works out nicely!

I'd hope the White Sox win bigtime! 8 - 2

With a guy named Boof going against Shilling? Tigers will be 1 1/2 up by midnite. I hear crow tastes good if you put enough salt on it.

Wishful thinking... I look at it more like the Twins have always hit fastball pitchers well, including Schilling and Boof is pitching very well.... on the other hand Judy garland is also pitching well and Bonderbunk isn't!! So lets just say I see the Twins 1/2 game up... lets see who's right? wink.gif

How about a half game? If they hold the lead as of now. If not, I hope you like your crow...

Are you guys ever gonna lose? Not sure either of us are eating crow this morning. We both misses by just a litle bit. Tigers actually player small ball last nite. Couple Sac Bunts, some hit and runs, and then another home run by Mags (third of the series). Screwy one game in Baltimore this afternoon and start a three game series in KC tomorrow. We've won eleven of twelve against KC this year. I'm not sure six more against them is a good thing.

Sox are gone. Two team race. Question --- would you rather play the Yankees in a five game series or Seven?

Bobby Bass is right on!! All I can say is that the Twins were so patient against Schilling last night... he was up to 80 something pitches in the 4th inning and had to be taken out because of his pitch count! We had him on the ropes more innings than not, but give him credit for getting out of tough situations like a true veteran stud does. Also, has anybody on the Twins hit a nicer looking homerun this year than the one Torri parked out on Landsdowne street in the 8th inning last night?! My gahd!! What a bomb!! One more thing, did anybody else here Bert say in like the 7th inning that the game was so close that it felt like one that the Twins would come back and win? What a call!! Right now nobody knows our young guns ie... Garza, Bonser, Baker & Neshek and that MIGHT bode well for us, who knows.... I'd still love to have Liriano and Radke.

How about that one last night Buzz!

As bad as Torii was earlier, he has been great since he came back.

That's 3 clutch homers in less than a week!! Nice to see. Bonser was also terrific along with the bullpen. The Sox are doing their slide big-time. I would have thought they could have at least won a home series against a team they've owned all year long and with their most consitent pitcher on the mound. - guess not grin.gif

Ha Ha you guys funny tongue.gif. Silence yesterday, but now that I gotta eat crow crow pie I can't shut you all up. Ya know, crow doesn't taste bad with a little BBQ sauce. Really, it's only a matter of time before the Twins take the lead and stay there. I'm quite confident of this, and say it at the risk of wiping more future crow off my face...

While RJ notes that MN is hot (W4), nobody even mentions the race for 5th in the NL Central....Pitt has W5 now. Cubs don't have a chance to evade the cellar if they keep winning.

laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gifTry turning the paper upside down....The Twins fans

had to do this in the late '90s. It makes the standings look better. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

I am not going to count out the White Sox quite yet. I remember what happened all too well at the end of last year with Indians falling on its face and Chicago winning the division. Highly unlikely, yes, impossible, no.

I wouldn't count them out yet either, heck they only lost to a poor Seattle team 9-0 last night! Can't wait to see them bring that "A" game out tonight. tongue.gif

I am officially counting them out. They aren't going anywhere. The slide is in full force and there is no way they get out of it. They have given up.

Only thing we have to worry about now is if we play at home for our first playoff game or on the road.

Magic number for the Twins in the Wild Card is at 5 now. There would have to be a MAJOR Twins collapse and a MAJOR win streak by the Sox for them to get into the playoffs. Don't see either happening right now. I just checked and the Twins are +6 in the loss column on the White Sox. If I figure it out the Twins have to go 4-6 and the Sox would have to win out.

Besides we need to be focussing on the Tigers not the Sox.

Agreed. The wild card would be ok, but the division is what we want. Therefore, we want Detroit and not the Sux.

How cool would home field advantage be!??!?!?

What do you guys think about the possibility that the last game of the season might mean the division? We would have Santana going. Would you want him to pitch and win the division, or rest and start game one of a playoff series?

Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but I rest him so that he can be used twice in a playoff series if he is needed. Also, if he were to loose, I don't really want anybody else on the hill game one in Yankee stadium other than Yo.

Willy,

I know, I know....it's a business and the goal is to win the WS. And I understand the point/strategy of your ? about resting Santana. I don't know all the dynamics of the team/chemistry or how that might affect it. I would like to see them continue playing the same way they have been without making any major strategy changes. Besides, I feel saving him to make more starts is kind of a slap in the face to all the other guys that contributed, no matter how big or small, to the success of the team and I would think they would like their turn out there.

I'll be ironing my skirt later!

Hopefully it won't come to that, but I don't see it as a slap in the face, I see it as smart baseball.

Radke will be back and might not be on the playoff roster. He can be used in the last series at the dome. It'd be the right way to send Brad out if they don't plan on using him in the playoffs. Give him a chance to win us the division.

Imagine the story that'd make. ooo.gif

I wonder if we'll hear any mouth from them like we have before. Buerhle shot his mouth off the one year and this year they were supposed to be the best team they've ever had. They had the better team. grin.gif

The Twins had the door of opportunity OPEN WIDE twice and they blew it! I would have to say if they don't take the division lead while Detroit plays Toronto, we'll probably have to settle for the WC..bottom line, division title or WC, we're in the playoffs!

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
