lacroix boys, good news, 56 rapids is looking good. We just got back from our Loon Lake fishing trip and we still have all of our props and lower units intact. 56 had some current coming down it, but we were able to come off of plane and putt up the rapids. We had to keep some throttle on to get up, but we made it without incident. Also, watch out by sturgeon rock. On the way up it was no big deal, but on the way back yesterday, Monday 31st, there was a huge Red Pine down across the river. It must have blown down on Saturday with the high winds. It stretches across most of the river. It blew down from the Candian side. We came off of plane and putted around the tree then popped her back up onto plane. No big deal, but it might surprise you! Oh yeah, we caught about 100 walleye. we came home with 24 walleye, 4 limits, and had two fish dinners. We threw back about 40 or 50 small ones, 10-13". It was a blast, have fun on your trip!

Thanks for the info Ironranger. Sounds like you had a great time. I was going to ask you about Sturgeon if you would have not mentioned it. Is the jug still hanging on the rock? Is the rockpile on Loon, where the lake goes north to the portage, have a jug on it? Last year there was none and we tried to find it to mark it but never could locate it. We stayed near the point and managed to avoid it. Sounds like 56 won't be an issue. We'll putt through it also. With the 125, it shouldn't be a problem. I always carry a spare prop just in case. My second year up, I hit the rock at the mouth of the portage and broke every blade. By the way, how is that area? Do you have to hug the Canada side before you enter the portage or can you stay down the middle of the river? Thanks for the info on the red pine. That would have been a shocker to come around the bend and see that lying ahead. At least it will be a good marker. We are chomping at the bit. It looks like it is finally going to warm up a little. The smallies should be moving shallow by the first of next week. Take care and I will write when we get back.

Yeah, sturgeon rock has the jug on it still, but that whole right side of the river there is scattered with rocks. That's why we came off of plane to go around the Red Pine. Yeah, if I were you I would still hug the Canadian shoreline when coming into the portage, we did. I did not see the jug on the rock pile in the middle of loon that you mentioned. I know the rocks are there, but didn't see the jug. You're right, if you hug that Candian point you'll be fine. That's what all of the shuttle boats were doing. I saw some boats fishing those rocks and they appeared to be about 100-150 yards off of the shoreline.

FYI: water temps on Loon were 50 degrees on Thursday the 27th, but warmed up to 55 degrees, 58 degrees in the shallows, by Sunday the 30th. I hope that's good enough for the smallies to get active. Good luck, and let me know how you do!
