Grand Rapids Winnie fishing report

Another year has gone with our annual handicapped fishing day. We had 43 handicapped people stay up at Lakewood lodge on sand lake for the night, then 16 fishing guides met them in the morning and took them fishing for a couple hours and we all came back and fixed them fresh fish they caught and potatoes and a host of other goodies people brought in. It was a treat. So hats off to Lakewood for donating their resort and all the fishing guides and the businesses that donated.

Speaking of sand what a treat to fish. The walleyes are there and finally starting to chew alittle most came from 9-11 ft on a crawler but some were caught with jig and minnow also. The panfish are also starting to be on the deep cribs and some of the rocks out in the deep water.

Winnie has been a good early fall bite also look for the fish in 4-7 ft with jig and minnow and a crawler is also working. The shad raps are also working with a nice mixture of walleye and northern both coming in when trolling in the 5-7 ft. The perch are showing up on those flats too and some dandies with a jig and minnow. I heard Pokie was good with the full moon trolling cranks on the edge of the flats and Trout Lake is starting to get going with a jig and minnow.

The fishing is only going to get better from here so get out and enjoy

What day did you have your annual handicapped event? What a nice thing for you guides to do. Kudos!! I am surprised you were successful with crawlers. Couldn't get them to hit all week while we were up on Sand.

Hey Joshua, May be post back in the morning when the owner of this site is awake and see if he likes the Free bait, buy later your selling. May be you can work out the sponsor-vendor deal with him.  I'll have to say posting late at night when site owners and most of the Mods are asleep is a good way to get some site and product views in before it's deleted. Good luck with the sales!

According to the Army Corp of Engineers weather station here in Waskish we have had a grand total of  1.29 inches of precipitation so far in 2018.  When we were burning the grass of there was still about 30% snow cover. The flames were hitting 10 feet high.

Nice to see there might actually be some ice melting up that way! jkrash, those are hooded mergansers though.   I might’ve called out my first woodie sighting this year as one of those too.  But nah!  I know what I saw had to be woodie! Haha! Seriously though, I’ve seen more, and more variety of ducks this spring than ever  in my life.  The late lake ice outs have made the river a diver Mecca.  I think I saw a few with Ely or bust signs on em too!  The bulk of woodies have been in the Little Falls area for about a week, some for a couple.  The hoodeds have been here for at least a month. They’re all coming though!
