The wife and I are going to be staying in Schroeder over the Memorial Day weekend, and even though it's our anniversary, she asked me if I was going to be taking any fishing tackle along (just 1 of the many reasons I married her grin.gif ). So, I'm hoping that I can gain some enlightenment from some forum members about where I could get some fishing in. Walleyes, pike, panfish or trout, all would be fine. Bass too, if the season's open by then. I will probably have to fish from shore...

Depends on if your shore fishing or have a boat/canoe/float tube and what kind of species your after(trout, eyes, pike, smallies). First off get a good map(Gazetteer) that or the Forest service has great one availible through the state via the net or the ranger stations. Then look around the Schroder area at various lakes and check out the net surveys on the MNDNR website called lake finder. You can also buy a map book from the sportsman connection (arrowhead region)with all sorts of lakes w/ net surveys for that area. That should get you an idea of what and where and then it's just a matter of figuring out how. I think there is a deeryard lake up around there and have heard there are lots of eater eyes so check out the stats on that. Hope this helps-good luck and tightlines!

Thanks for the replies, guys!!
Redhooks: I just went to Cabela's and looked at the arrowhead region book, as well as using the DNR website. Deeryard was one of the lakes I found interesting, along with 4 mile, 9 mile, and Caribou. I guess I was looking for someone to tell me if shore fishing around the access area of any lakes would be worth a couple of hours of my time (but then, when isn't a couple of hours of fishing worth your time, right grin.gif), or if the trout were on the bite.

Gundy89, you will have mail...

A good little lake to try in that area is Barker. It has a carry down access, a nice little lake to fish with a canoe. Nice walleye, smallie and pike, and if you get lucky you might even get a slab crappie or two. You can find it on the NFS map available at all of the ranger stations.
The lake is small enough you should be able to find some fish without having to spend hours and hours checking unproductive spots.

Thanks for the info RandyR, I'll look in to Barker as well...

I have got to warn you about Deeryard. The lake is full of Walleyes, but they are very small. A 12" eye is definetly a keeper in there. You may catch a few fish that are a touch larger and I did hook a 20"+ fish, but that was once, so don't count on it. You will probablly require a canoe to fish it seeing as I have never fished around the access. I have always fished the other end of the lake from the point on.

Thanks for the info, winterse; I'll keep it in mind...
