Unmarked Insula Portage

I found a thread from Jan. that mentioned an unmarked portage in the NW section of Insula that could cut down some travel time across th big lake. Can anyone elaborate on the location of this unmarked portage (BLUESHARP made original mention of it on 1.8.04)?

I will be traveling at night by GPS and would also appreciate any tips, tricks or pointers for travleing this area from Lake One as I am more familiar with entering this neck of the woods via Kawishiwi Lake.

I think I know what your talking about. The other canoe in our group did it a couple years ago. They went in several days before us and said it was like a moose trail through the woods. It does save about 30 min of paddling thou. Never done it myself as we paddled south and around that big point. My maps are not here, but if the water is high(it was that year) give it a try, thou at night it might be a bit tricky.

I think I targeted where to look along that penninsula. Also, since we 'should' be hitting Insula by around 6 a.m., I have no problem trolling that extra 30 minutes around the big point
