Twins at Chisox

Twins took 2 of 3 from Baltimore and are 1/2 game back heading into Chicago for a three game set. This is what I call baseball.

We need to win this one!

big series, no doubt about that. But with the way both the Sox and Twins are playing-- I'am thinking it will likely come down to the last 3 games of the year between the Sox and Twins at the Dome. Almost would be a shame with the way this season is carrying out if those last 3 games don't mean win or go home.

This is about the fifth "critical" series these three teams have had in a month. The schedulers got this one right. They games truly are all big at this point. Get three or five games behind anybody and you might be done. The Red Sox are feeling that right now. From division contention to seriously wounded in the wildcard chase in under a week. That said, the Twins just don't give up. They are still in this hunt for awhile. no matter what happens in this Sox series.

I can't wait for the game tonight, my plane leave's at 1pm and lands at O'Hare at 2:15pm and be drinking by 3. We have really good seats for this series and looking forward to sitting with all the Sox fans.

You watch the Red Sox get back into this thing and it will be all ESPN talks about.... the lead in every night.... Big Papi this, Manny that, Papelbunk this, Affleck that.... All I'm saying is that we can only hope the Red Sox continue mediocrity so that either the Twins and Chi Sox can get some recognition. I heard Mike & Mike this morning and they were talking about the top MVP canidates... Big papi, Jeter (whatever), Dye, Mauer & Morneau. I agree these are the top canidates, I just for some reason don't like Jeter as much as the others. Sorry, didn't mean to hi jack this thread.... Twins take 2 of 3 games this weekend.

Yep, another huge series. We have a great chance to take the first two with Radke and Santana going. Silva is another matter. Sometimes he's on, sometimes he's pitching BP.

I think you are dead right mudcutter, it will come down to the last series of the year. I didn't know its going to be at the dome though. That will be a crazy series.

Don't forget the Tiger's; they aren't exactly playing stellar baseball right now, and are following the footsteps of the Bosox. There could be a big Tiger choke on the horizon with Minnesota and White Sox winning the division and WC. With Radke and Santana on the mound for game #1 and 2, our solid bullpen, and the Twin hit parade, plus our recent sucess against Chicago, I like the Twins to win the series.

I like the Twins for 2 out of 3, but even if we only get one, we should still be in alright shape.

Buzz, I agree with you. I hate ESPN. The Red Sox are a mediocre team and there is no way in heck that Jeter should be considered for MVP. Mauer either for that matter. It should come down to Ortiz, Dye, Morneau, or Haefner(who doesn't get any recognition but is better than all of those guys).

I agree Hafner is getting ignored probably more then anyone. He's been a stud this year. But since his team is losing its hard to always seen what he's doing.

Twins win 5-4. Rough start by Radke but the bull pen held strong. Nice mid-game rally. Finally back in the wild card seat. I hope they keep it going.

So what is the run total for Sunday's Buerhle vs Silva match-up?

Silva is due for a good start. Every other he seems to do well. Buerhle is horrible. My prediction is Twinkies win 9-4.

Only 5 games behind Detroit. Although I don't think they'll fall out of 1st. There pitching is to good.

The Sox are rarely out of a game with so much power in the line-up.

They would have been out of this one had Ozzie not taken their ACE out of the game when he did... they do indeed have power, but what happened to the pitching staff?

Life is good smile.gif, when the Sux get beat by anybody, and when the TWINS take two straight at their place....wow grin.gif

Here's my wish list: Twins stretch out the lead enough by the last series of the year so that series is a non-factor!

Great baseball for sure. I even like the "symbols" of this team better than the homer hanky days, too. Thank-you Ozzie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted a bunch of stats bashing the Sox pitching months ago. We're in complete agreement on their unremarkable starting rotation Buzz. IMO, Windy is right about the bats keeping the Sox in this thing. He has made numerous predictions that they will run away with the division soon. That is a gross overstatement in my opinion, but I don't think they will fall out, even if there pitching remains the same. How many here can honestly state they don't get real nervous when most of the Sox line-up steps to the plate, late in a close game. About 7 of them can go yard on a good pitcher.

I'm becoming a bigger Twins fan everyday, so don't confuse this post with Twinkie Bashing. smile.gif

Take a look at the size of Hafners head! Can you say HGH? That guy is over rated anyway. Three years from now he'll be Jose Canseco.

YES YES--- Put it on the board!!!! The Twins go into CHI and take 2 outta 3. Can't ask for more than that. They did lose the last game--- but after the way they won on Sat--- WHO CARES!!!! The Twins go into Chi down a half game and come out a half ahead--- the Piranhas are on the scent of a decaying tiger!!!!

All I can say is what a pleasure it was to listen to the dejection in the voices of the WSox common-tators. If I heard it once, I heard it a thousand times...."the diff between this yr and last is......", but then the Sox would go and do something good and their enthusiasm would pick up alittle. God, I hate listening to them worse than hearing fingernails on the blackboard. From now on, "they gone"!

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
