Grand Marais Area Fishing And Ice Out Report.

Steelhead fishing is pretty good in the Devils Track and Kadunce Rivers. Crowded on the weekends. Water is pretty cold still. With the rain they are flowing hard and fast now. The Cascade has been slow for some reason this year. Not many fish spotted in the river. Spawn sacs are working and fly fisherman are having luck throwing big wolly buggers. No smelt reports yet...

Most of the lakes are still covered in ice with shorelines opening up in most places. Lots of snow still on some back roads away from the big lake. All the beaver ponds are open and I'm glad to say I'm just kill'in the beaver this spring love the smell of castor.

thanks for giving us all the report. Are we about a week away from ice-out on the small to average size lakes (Greenwood, Tom? How much snow is on the forest roads?

The snow should be gone from the back roads this week. It was just bad in some spots. The shady spots is where the snow was really built up, or where the plows quit plowing. As far as ice out I have no idea yet. Small lakes should open here with in the week. The Bigger sized lakes should open up just before the openor.
