It's finally close enough. Just wishing to hear others' stories on their favorite openers in the BW. Fishing, camping, stories in general.
Last year my buddies left Orr at 9 Sat morn and didn't see another car on the way to the landing. Didn't see another person till mon afternoon on Iron. Helped that we went in at Stuart. Just was awesome not seeing another person. How many places can you go in MN on the opener and not see another soul for over 48 hours?? Just wanting to hear other guys stories in general on opener in the BW to get the juices flowing even more.

I think last year we counted 61 boats whithin eye shot of where we were fishing, and we were in a river. Up and down all toll there had to be 200-400 from the landing to were we fished. Funny thing is I am going to do it again this year and have been doing it for 10 years, every body caught so many walleyes it was well worth it and I have never seen more big walleyes anywhere. Took 20 minutes to get the boat out of the water but there was only one there when we showed up.

The last time we went into the BDub for opener ws when they were running the 4 mile truck portage on Basswood. We camped in Wind bay. I remember that Suburban, floor rusted out in the back seat. My feet dangling where the floor should be, watching the foad and pudlles go by. When we put in and started paddling around the point, it started snowing. Snowing hard. Camp was set up. And I remember waking up to our pots of water turned to ice.

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
