That would be nice. Though I can't find anything official on it. Nothing on KFAN, Twins site, or any other SPorts site.

That was the plan give Smith a shot "seeya" and then Bring up Garza.

This is going to be fun guys, I think we are the Favorites for the Wild Card now... shocked.gif

Go Twins..... grin.gif

Remember there are no guarantees! You guys act like he's a Cy Young pitcher already... I am excited as well and I doubt he could be any worse than what we have(had). Guess time will tell!

Outdoors guy, Was this speculation?

Listening to KFAN right now and they are all speculation on who starts on Friday. I would think if it was announced KFAn would have heard about it and then they wouldn't be ttrying to figure out who starts.

Its got to be speculation.

Well i reread the article and i guess it says all signs of another roster move. Hopefully they make that move. My fault for stating the wrong facts.

I was going to say I read the link and it made no mention of him being called up.

The article said that " all signs point to another roster change" does not say that Garza has been called up. You can all sit back down guys.. besides why would you call up a player on Monday for a Friday game?

Looked like you were reading way, way, way between the lines.

According to KFAN Garza pitches again on Wednesday, if he makes that start you can scratch him for starting on Friday for the Twins. If he skips Wednesday I am sure he is heading to meat the team in Toronto.

It looks like Garza is scheduled to start on Wednesday for Rochester. If we are gonna call him up to start on Friday, he won't pitch Wednesday. They will make a decision by then and if we don't see him pitch Wednesday, then it's a pretty sure bet he'll be up with the big club.

Mike Smith is not an option IMO.

P.S. The Nationals just moved Livan Hernandez to the Diamondbacks for 2 pitching prospects.

My speculation is they will give Smith one more chance to start and then if he stinks again-- they will pull the switch. They really want Garza to have a little seasoning in AAA first I think. The twins have been giving the young pitchers a few starts each in the past to see what they are made of-- can't go by only one start. Bonser and Baker both had several chances before the recent ones. We will see........ smile.gif

Very interesting situation. We really can't afford to lose that many more games and stay in the WC hunt, especially with doubts now about Liriano and his MRI coming up. On the other side, we need to not push a possible "Liriano" into action to fast and risk to injury or lack of confidnece.

In my OP--- we can't beat around the bush-- bring Garza up and give him a chance- just like giving the reins to a rookie QB--- let'em learn the best way-- playing agst the best in the world.

The Twins announced today that prominent minor league pitching prospect Matt Garza has been promoted to the major leagues and will join the team in Detroit on Tuesday night.

mnwild where'd you see that? It's not on the Twins site or MLB or ESPN?

Yep, just seen it too.

They really had no other choice in my opinion. He's gonna get thrown into the fire whether he likes it or not.

Hope he's up to it!

As I mentioned in an earlier post a while back, I don't see this much different than the McCarthy situation with the White Sox last year. You never know Garza could be what this team needs right now to make the wild card.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!
