Ok STF..I will give it to you, they are very good. Although I donlt know that I would turn my nose up at walleyes over them. I certainly will be looking ofward to catching more of them though.

I'll take a Laker over Salmon for eating.3or4 meals of salmon a year is enough for me. Eyes are still my favorite.

Eyes and Crappies for me. Nothing wrong with a Coho either. My wife loves salmon but Im not a big Laker fan unless smoked.

No matter what fish I love catching them. I know Cheffrey has some killer Laker and Salmon recipes. I need to get his Salmon Spread recipe thats awesome! tongue.gif

Iam with Northlander on this one. Walleyes and panfish taste the best I think. I do like small salmon in the pan. All my lakers go in the smoker except I might steak and grill one. Just don't care for them in the pan.

Jeez, maybe you guys down on Superior are just spoiled, and all your lakers are the giant yellow greaseball siscowet strain, which are good for three things: Tree and shrub fertilizer, sled dog food or the smoker.

Seriously, if you take a redfin (lean) laker of about 2 pounds (Burntside's full of 'em), fillet it like a walleye, roll it in a mix of half fryin magic and half shore lunch breading, and fry it in oil alongside a walleye and compare . . . mmmmmmm. grin.gif

Of course, this from the guy who throws in a handful of rock bass fillets when fixing sunny and crappie, and watching everyone at the table gulp them all down and throw compliments to the cook. In fact, on several occasions I've fixed 75 percent rockie fillets and only 25 percent sunny and crappie, and watched rock bass "haters" expound on how much better all that fish tasted than rock bass. (I'd insert an evil grin smilie here, but FM doesn't have one available).

I'm just back from a BWCA trip into Knife, Kek, Fraser, Ima, etc....with an experienced Laker guy and we cuaght lakers everyday (my first) and filleted up the 2-3 pounders right along with the Walleye's and I have to say that the laker was mighty fine...in fact I uttered the words, "this might be my new favorite fish....". I can't wait to go back in after some laker so I can pan fry them baby's!

Its pretty hard to beat the Red Fin strain. No breading and fried in butter, yum. smallieobsession, I hear ya on the Thomas lakers they're ever bit as good as LS Red Fins.

Havent you ever had BAKED trout. soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, much better than frying them. i dont like frying fish much, too greasy. baked with some buttah, and seasonin', mmmmmmmmmmmm, baked fish!

Sure Brule, I've had baked and broiled trout many a time, but we generally use those methods for the larger lakers and pan fry the small ones like walleye. grin.gif

      Early ice I am always targeting big crappies not numbers and I always start shallower in the weeds that are still green and I use bigger profile spoons tipped with a minnow head or even a large plastic monnow profile. I find that the larger crappies will  move in for a short while and be feeding on the remaining minnows until they head back out. I fish in that 6-9" area with great results very early ice.

      I'll be out second weekend in my traditional spot as well. Always see deer but I have yet to stick one. Hoping this is the year!

      Wow, impressive! I was out in northern MN over the weekend and, while working on stands, flushed six. No shots as all were roosted high in the trees thanks to the rain, but made for some excitement at least.

      I worked all last summer at camp lawn mowing. I’ll tell ya it was a lot of work but very rewarding. I love hands on work and like to get the job done. The one day it was to hot to mow so we jumped in the trucks and did a 60 mile loop down range. Let me tell ya there’s some nice deer out there this year. I’ve been around camp my whole life but yet to experience the full “experience” of camp. It was so cool. Ferrell would be a good bet for eyes or gills very small pretty lake indeed.       What I’m starting to find out is there’s not a specific case as everyone has there own liking and what they want in a rod case. With that being said yes going to a ice show or like the thorn bros gathering will allow you to look any many different rigs and choose which would work best for you.

      The water temp had dropped to anywhere between 44 to 40, depending on where you were. Saw as low as 37 in Bystrom Bay. The temp we saw the most was 41.  It’s cold!
