Easter, A wonderful day. Got to work @ 4:30am this morning to put together the brunch. 20 minutes later our night audit fellow comes into the kitchen and says that a guest in a unit had a spark burning behind the fireplace. So I shuffle down to the unit fire extinguisher in hand only to find out the whole back wall was burning behind the fireplace. After giving one good shot behind the fireplace I called 911 and woke up guests staying with us in 6 units inside the building. After attempting to contain the fire for about 10 minutes I felt a rumble under the floor and flames shot out around my legs. Time to get out. Grabbed my stuff and turned around and the room was full of smoke. Found my way out and looked behind as the room became ungulfed with flames.
Heck of an easter, I got to ruin it for 6 families by kicking them out of the units they were staying in @ 5:30 in the AM and I almost stupidly got myself caught up in a uncontrollable fire. Moral of story in retrospect:
DONT BE A HERO WHEN INSURANCE WILL PAY!

Cheffrey, I think you would have ruined their Easter more by letting them sleep. You did the right thing! Sorry to hear of the loss. FD get there before everything was a total loss?

Whole double townhome (6 units) is a loss they are just finishing it up now, Could not access crawlspace and that's where most of it was contained until it hit the attic.
