Going out next weekend on the south shore if the big boat is ready. should be good and if it is not no problem it will be good to just be out there. so if you would like to go ripstick give me a call and we will get five or six guys together and find some fish.

Skipper sounds good. We should get a few boats out there and see if we can corner them. Park Point should heat up in a few weeks.

I'm shooting for having my rig in the water by Sunday, I should be getting it back from the shop today or tommorrow, then i just need to put the rest of it back together and get the headache rack mounted.

Northlander that sounds good. I am trying to get the big boat done then it will be ready for the summer. But sateday sounds like it will work but i will work late every night to have it ready. my boat stays at the minnesota slip and they do not have the dockes in yet so i will have to do some cheking around to see where i can put it for the time being. I would like a nice COHO fo dinner if you know what i mean. GOOD FISHING TO ALL.

Those that are going out this weekend, where are you going to be fishing?

Could a 16FT old Lund make it out on the Big Pond.

I've got the itch to get out this weekend and would like to target crappies on the in-land lakes. But if that isn't a possibility, I wouldn't mind trying to get out on the big lake.

Thanks,

Then maybe again, my boat is too small??

Please don't laugh at me on asking. I'm anxious to get out and have never been on the big lake.

A 16 ft boat is fine. Just respect the lake and keep an eye on the wind direction.
If you think its a little to rough to get out your probably right.
A well maintained motor along with a spare(kicker) is a must.
Along with the required equipment for inland lakes you'll need either hand held flares or flare gun.

I'll be trolling the point tomorrow (Tue)
and will give a report. If the weather permits I'll be out sat as well.

Capt'n,
NO bad questions here, especially when your asking about superior.
You can definitly fish the early bite on superior in your 16', i did for several years with 30hp. You can troll along either park point or down the south shore for salmon/lakers on the MN side, and you can add walleye's to the mix on the WISC side.
Everyone has their favorite depths, but usually less than 50' early season and most action is on the top 20'. I did see 2 boats out along park point last friday around noon.
I plan on putting in at UPS either saturday and/or sunday and firing up the boat and hopefully getting in a few hours of trolling.
Green toyota truck and green lund/90 honda.
I'll be there early am.

Warm temps in the forecast. Who's itchin to get out this weekend?
I don't think everyone has a marine radio so lets use FRS channel 7 again.

ST,
Unless it is a complete downpour i will be out saturday early AM. I'm gonna try to go out sunday am also but not sure.
I also ran into ElevatorGuy last night and he is planning on going out saturday afternoon. Good to hear the report of smelt along the Point, there should be a few hungry carnivores right behind grin.gif
You've got a pretty nice morning, maybe a little too calm (looked like a little skim ice maybe in spots) let us know how you did.
I may try to drop the boat in the water and fire up the motor on thursday, but I've got the little guy so fishing is not do-able. Would be good to burn out the fogging oil tho and hear the motor purrrr!!

PS: Hey Load, got my mast secured to the boat similar to yours (used some old chain instead) and its not going anywhere now.
Gonna give it and the new boards a maiden run this weekend!

Jar Jar,
You bet, if you can bring a couple of rods with ya and whatever else you want tackle wise is great (i've got only 2 linecounter rod/reels, saving up for 2 more at present)
Do you have your MN license yet? I havnt picked up my WI one yet, and was planning on going out off of park point. If you dont, I will try to get over to NW outlet before Sat. to pick one up.
Was gonna put in under the blatnik and go from there.
Let me know and we can figure out the particulars. Planned on hitting it first thing in the AM and doing a half day (lots on the "honey-do list frown.gif )

Got on the water at 10 AM Tue morning.
Made a pass along the point in 25' of water. Water temp was 36. No releases and marked nothing. On the return pass I went out to 65' and found smelt and started marking fish. 2 simultaneous releases in top and 2 releases @ 45' and no hookups.
I wanted to checkout the Chester and 21st area so made a pass through there. No marks and the temp was 35.
Moved back off the point in 65' and worked the top and 25- 45'. Marked fish again there. Moved in tighter to 12' along the beach. Temp was 38 and no releases.
Would have liked to look more but ran out of time.
With warmer temps this week it may get things going in tight but right now to me it seems a bit early. Finding the smelt out deeper and working that area seems to be your best bet now. I'd like to hear reports on the south shore and TH.

The fish that were caught were in 10' along PP with silver sticks. Thats all I know.

What we need is a warm rian so we can get water temps 40 to45 degrees. good luck!

With this wind those smelt should have moved away from shore. It will be a cupple of days be for they come back but that dosent mean you cant catch them by moving out in the lake in 25 to 50 ft of water. I think you are right ripstik we need warm rain and a very light east wind. thing should start this week. GOOD FISHING TO ALL.

Got out this morning for about a hour and a half before the motor sh!t the bed. 2 coho's 1 15" and 1 18" on two different Silver fastracks, one with blue top and the other with black spots, 12 lines out this AM, leadcore, dipsy and 00 doger fly combo, purples, orange, & golds in ripstick, bomber, & rebel. Only the fastracks worked.

Cheffery,
Sorry to hear about the motor, finally put my boat in yesterday and found my starting battery was donefor (at least i had a spare with) so a trip to nearby Interstate just over the highbridge was in order.
How deep were you fishing when you hit the coho's?
JarJar and I will be out on the sand tomorrow morning, anyone else?? Going out under the highbridge.
Xplorer

Jar Jar, ya just beat me to it grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Well fortunately for me it was my Brother in Laws boat and it is either the impellar or thermo was stuck, Luckily loons foot was all iced out and docks were in so we called for a ride back to garfield. Unfortunately for me I just picked my LS boat up from the shop for a total rebuild and the throttle is mucked up (always something). Time to put a little elbow grease in on my own. We went "around the horn" out of the aerial and into the superior canal. Fished mainly 18' to 25' off of the sand running in 1.9 to 2.2 mph. Good luck to ya! mine won't be in action till next week, which sucks since the docks are in at barker's as of today. Oh well time will tell.

Come on guys the suspense is killing me. How did you do on the lake today. Looked like it was pretty flat out there. There calling for strong winds tomorrow. Always calm when I can't go.
