Fishing has picked up on the big lake. Will post a report at the end of the weekend. I've decided its time to invest in some downrigger electronics. I am aware of 4 products...Fish Hawk, Depth Raider, Cannon and Moor SUb Troll. Appreciate any thoughts on these units. I think the Fish Hawk is the most expensive. Also, thoughts on wireless data transmission vs the coated cable? Thanks.

I got the cannon unit a year ago last spring and am very happy with it. It uses a coated down rigger cable and I have no problem with getting an accurate reading with it. It gives speed, temp, light penetration and actual blow back depth of the cannon ball.

From posts i've seen on other boards depth raider hands down.

Based upon the limited comments, I am wondering if very many are using the technology? Perhaps just a simple probe attached to a cannon ball to get an occaisonal reading would suffice?

I have tried that and would highly resommend getting one of the units. The temps and speeds change alot more than you would think. If you can afford one I would get one. It is a speciality item for sure but as far as I am concerned it is worth the dough.

I wish I had one and I'm sure everyone that trolls Superior does too. Problem is cost.

I've been using a thermometer w/cable and readout that has the probe you send down with a downrigger weight. Downside is the drag from the wire and no speed at the ball.
