I have an opportunity to fish the Kab Sept 19-24. What would fishing be like at that time and what patterns would walleye and sm bass be displaying?

Thanks

I have fished Kab on the first and second week of September in the past. Walleye fishing on the west end can be pretty tough. Plan on going east, possibly to Namakan, from what everybody says. Since your in the third week though, the weather patterns may change and my tip of traveling east could be worthless. Smallies and Pike are still active throughout the lake and have done quite well in September. Casting crankbaits, although I think you could catch them any which way. We caught decent saugers on the west end by drift jigging. Follow the posts and they will lead you to the right spot. We fished Kab earlier this year and the fishing was fantastic, so I am anticipating that the fall will be excellent as well. I wish I was going back this fall, but we are going to Lac Seul instead. Kind of feels like I am cheating on the old girl. Love that lake.

I think fall is one of the best times...weather is key, and walleye patterns are what I'm fishing, so I can't help much on the fall bass fishing.

Typically walleyes will school up in deep holes near "gaps" or off island breaks. Fishing in 20-35' and vertical jigging. You will likely try a few spots with very little, and all of a sudden one area is productive...

It will either be excellent, or slow...generally not a medium with the fall bite. Crappie fishing is also happening around that time-frame, and if you've never caught a Kab/Nam crappie they are nice big slabs...

good luck!

Kab Kid,

Any suggestions on where to start looking for the fall crappies? Presentations? I would love to catch me one of them big "slabs"

Thanks

well typically the bite begins mid to late Sept. and theeast end of Kab or west end of Nam is the best...Ash river & sullivans bay, or into Lost bay...

hey boys I too am heading up 15-19 of Sept. THis will be my first fall fishing trip to the great waters of Kab and NAm. I have been many times in winter and summer but never enjoyed the fall up there. This summer the smallies where biting on crappy jigs just off the rocks, I am thinking for the fall they will have moved out or deep, and I always look to the bays for pike. What colors work well in the fall, I have had good luck on the standard rapalas, black and silver and blue and silver. Also I am still looking for a new style of trolling. I havn't found anyhthing good for getting down in the 20 - 40 range, or at least one I like, any tips? I fished some in mid Oct. I have found good size pike in the bays and smallies off rock points, top water has worked well in morning and evening. Good luck

I've had pretty good luck at the mouth of the Ash River (where it comes into Kab) fishing in 40'-45' of water using a down-rigger and Raps. For crappie I go up in Lost Bay and fish the bay going into the group campsite.

It is  pretty shiny piece of equipment. I was able to purchase it on my scab job wages 😆 I don't think I'll update the electronics any time soon, 3 screens is enough?

I mean to catch pike you just need a shiny object...

Just another "Words matter"   Voting on school levy. This was posted on the School "education district" building door.  We had a nice cold walk all the way around the building! The arrow was added, after we educated them! 😒

Obviously this is more of a hot topic due to forward facing sonar. With that being said, I know people who have pulled crappies out of basins 40+ deep since the fl-8 and zercom flashers came out. That's over 30 years ago. I do think there's a push to ban these in MN and I could see them doing it here. They'll have to pay my livescope from my cold dead hands 😆 on days I can't catch a walleye jigging or rigging it's nice to turn it on and throw corks at individual fish

It wasn't just you, I was fishing west of you about an hour on Monday. Fished 8am-4pm, no fish, two keeper walleye and one small one from 4pm-630pm. Marked a lot of fish, they would come up to a jig and swim away. They were skittish to the dead stick too

I wonder like divers, if we let them decompress every 10' for 1/2hr. If that would help?  🤔  It would slow the bite down a bit!  🤭
