Flourocarbon Line

Question

Posted

Lately I've been hearing about how people are using Flourocarbon line for the liters on their Lindy rigs.

Has anyone tried this and is this line "better" than mono?

Also, what is your flourocarbon brand of choice?

I appreciate the help!

Ok.. generally floro has the same reflective index as water so , it is VERY hard to see under water. Also, Floro is better for abrasion resistance... so will handle nicks and such from rocks..

I use Gamma floro now.. its a little more expensive than many, but I feel its worth it.

I just spooled up with the gamma co polymer (pink box), how is that gonna work for me on Mille Lacs? Let me edit and change this a little bit, I was wondering if people have used the co polymer line or not.....I still have my other rods spooled with fluro, just wondering what people think of the co polymer line.....

I have also been having good luck with the Gamma line.

I don't believe that the Gamma line is worth the extra money. At Gander Mountain the line is $27 bucks a box, and that is only for 120 yards. The thing about fluorocarbon line is that is has the same refractive index as water (this means that is bends light the same way that water does so you cannot see the line underwater). So all the lines that claim to be flurocarbon will be "invisible" underwater. I would rather suggest the P-line fluorocarbon line. You get twice as much and it is nearly half the price. Also Berkley Vanish line is a good choice. I usually use the P-line to spool up my spinning reels, and the Vanish for leaders while walleye fishing.

Thanks for the help all!

Just remember that the true advantage of Flouro is that you can use heavier line 12, 15, or 20 lb and still have some stealth because the line is invisible under water.

I use P-Line CFX leader. CFX is specifically for leaders. It is really too stiff to use as a main line but it works great for leaders. No knock to Gamma I have never tried it.

I used Berkly Vanish Transition for Lindy Rigs this year up at Rainy Lake. I caught a meanigfully higher number of fish than the other three guys and mine tended to be larger (on a per-person basis). Maybe it was luck, maybe I'm just that good (but not usually), or maybe it was the flourocarbon leader. The other guys were not using flouro.

I agree Gamma is spendy but I got all mine at the sports show at great prices or for free so it was a good deal. I probably would go P-line if I was having to pay full price as well. I have had a lot of break offs with Vanish lines under 12#. Why? I have no clue.

DO you guys spool up with it...or just use it for leaders? I heard that spooling up with was not the best idea because it has a high memory...any truth to this?

I just use it for leaders. I just started using braided. Use the flouro to be "stealthy" grin.gif

For me, I just use it for leaders. I either use a swivel to make the transition or use a uni to uni knot.

Yup mostly just leaders but I did spool up with Gamma and it hasnt been bad at all.

Ok, I got some of that Gamma Edge 6lb test at Gander last night. They had 120 yards on sale for $14.99.

Is that a pretty good deal? I have no clue how much this Fluoro stuff should cost.

thanks

Its only a good deal if you like it and it works for you. Gamma is spendy and thats a ok deal in my eyes. If you think its too pricey and you dont feel its cost effective try P-line.

Hey I just got some P-line! wink.gifsmirk.gif (actually pink fireline 6lb.) at Scheels in Fargo for $6.99. They are clearing it out.

It is  pretty shiny piece of equipment. I was able to purchase it on my scab job wages 😆 I don't think I'll update the electronics any time soon, 3 screens is enough?

Just another "Words matter"   Voting on school levy. This was posted on the School "education district" building door.  We had a nice cold walk all the way around the building! The arrow was added, after we educated them! 😒

Obviously this is more of a hot topic due to forward facing sonar. With that being said, I know people who have pulled crappies out of basins 40+ deep since the fl-8 and zercom flashers came out. That's over 30 years ago. I do think there's a push to ban these in MN and I could see them doing it here. They'll have to pay my livescope from my cold dead hands 😆 on days I can't catch a walleye jigging or rigging it's nice to turn it on and throw corks at individual fish

It wasn't just you, I was fishing west of you about an hour on Monday. Fished 8am-4pm, no fish, two keeper walleye and one small one from 4pm-630pm. Marked a lot of fish, they would come up to a jig and swim away. They were skittish to the dead stick too

I wonder like divers, if we let them decompress every 10' for 1/2hr. If that would help?  🤔  It would slow the bite down a bit!  🤭
