I just read a report that the smallmouth are guarding the nest??? We will arrive on sunday and will be fishing around little canoe, devils cascade, and possibly ash bay. Any tips for the bass, walleye, or pike. Thanks, this will be our third trip to Rainy and it has always been good.

Smallies, for the most part, have left the nests about a weeek ago. You can start finding them on sharp drops from shore in rocks and boulders. Submerged boulders in 10-15 ft. of water or so would be ideal. Walleyes are now out on reefs and breaklines off islands in 20-28 ft. Use leeches if they're available, otherwise crawlers and shiners will do pretty good also. Lindy rigs are a personal favorite, but jigs and spinners are working too. Hope this helps!
