I have had bugs getting into fly tying stuff i was wondering if anyone knew how to get rid of them.

Thankfully I haven't had bugs in my tying material collection yet. But if I did, I'd probably try microwaving the materials for about 5-10 seconds to try to rid them of the bugs. That's what I do with any material harvested from wild animals anyway.

I bag all my materials in zip locks to avoid a mass infestation if one was to ever occur. Just helps keep things a little better organized as well.

Hope there was not too much damage done to your collection.

Saw this one on another board, so no originality on my part and I havent' tried it yet, either, but I like the idea: Put some no-pest strips in your fly tying area. I've been told that the nasty little beetles that chew up your materials can find there way inside most plastic bags. Sounds weird, but they are awfully small.

Freeze them for few days, take them out for a few days, and then refreeze them. Some insect eggs will survive the first freezing, and then naturally hatch during the 'thaw'. The second freezing takes care of them.

As for keeping them out - I have heard of everything from a few moth flakes in the bottom of your containers to the urinal mints. Appearantly urinal mints also keep bugs away and smell better than the flakes. Just open the package part way and keep it by your materials. Haven't tried it myself, so who knows.

Welcome to FM trout man! I haven't had the bug problem yet, but I agree with the freezer and microwave tactics. I use both when I collect and prepare my specimens for tying.

I haven't had the bug problem yet either *knock on wood*, but I'm sure it's tough to avoid. Sounds like you've got some good advice, and I'll keep those ideas in mind.

JP, new puppy? Good lookin' little guy...

The advice about freezing is right on, I've been doing it for years. New materials go in the freeze to. I keep a few moth balls in with my expensive necks just to be sure.
