how to properly hold a fish (walleye) to take a picture?

I dont understand how to hold a walleye or where to put my fingers when holding the fish up for a picture. I don't want to hurt any fish so I have been just holding them with two hands. Thanks a ton guys, and if at all possible does anybody have any pics of how to do it, close-up? thanks again.

eye limit (I like the name laugh.gif), What I always like to do is run my middle & pointer finger along the walleye's jaw on the side facing me (this shouldn't damage the fish's gills either). I then take my other hand and hold the walleye's belly towards the anal fin. Hold'em out kind of diagonal with the head facing upwards somewhat and the tail angled down and towards the camera.

Here are a couple of examples:

Another way that you can hold them is to just use one hand along the jaw like these:

One more thing to remember is to hold the fish wout in front of you so that the size of the fish is very evident. I hope that this can help you to get some good photos!!

the only suggestion i'd make different than fish'n'guy would be to tuck the fingers on the hand supporting the belly up under the fish so its sitting kind of on your knuckles and end of your fingers (if that makes any sense) it looks a tad better to have those fingers hidden from view in the pic.

on larger fish i'd suggest always holding in the horizontal manner with belly supported rather than vertical. theres debate as to whether vertical holds cause an increase in delayed motality and if so at what sizes it starts having an effect, but in my opinion its better safe than sorry. (disclaimer: this isnt meant as anything other than a suggestion and opinion!)

i also prefer to hold the fish closer than most guys because i like a natural looking pic and one where size is easier to judge than when a fish is held out quite a ways from the body, ala the "in-fisherman pose". grin.gif

hey thanks guys I appreciate it a ton, i'll be heading up to Mille Lacs today and staying until tuesday so I should have plenty of practice taking some good pictures with big fish, and I might have to do the "in-fisherman" style picture. haha thanks again.
