Hey, am looking to try some other lakes in the area for walleye fishing, am going up over the 4th weekend on big lake , but would like to try some walleye on other lakes, slip bobbering etc. Any suggestions on where or which lake and and other tips for the lake? Thanks

We get up to the area a couple of times per year. on Big Lake to the west of the largest Island where it points to a small island to the South west of it. Fish from the point of the large island to the north west side of the small island. Stay in front of the small island looking for a small rise in depth in front of that island. About 35 to 50 yards out from the island. That is where we pick up most of our walleyes. A few small pike roam in there too. If this lake is just shut off load up the boat and head up the echo trail towards Winton/Ely stop in at Cedar Lake. This lake has always been good for walleyes and pike for us. After you put the boat in head out and towards the back of the bay you just launched in there should be weeds topping off right there fish the deeper side of these with a spinner bait for small to medium northerns. The shoreline just across from the landing is good right at sunset until a bit after dark which is nice cause its right by the landing. Other wise check a map there is a large hump halfway down the lake in a wider spot Walleye again. As for Big lake sorry its all I got but we never spend much time on this lake. If they are hitting here we stay. If not there are too many lakes in the area to stay on this one too long.

This will give you a couple of options. I will be up on the weekend of the 25th of June I'll check in here to let you know what worked for us.

Ed Shave is ok for walleyes too and thats alot closer to big lake but your choices are about endless Shag, LIttle Long, Cedar, fall, birch, white iron, and basswood. wink.gif

yeah these spots aren't any secrets but they are productive. I've even seen them marked on maps you can buy. Ha. But like I say they do produce fish.

Well we did get up here for the weekend of the 25th. Ugly is all I can describe it as. We stayed in Babbit so we didn't venture off too far. White Iron was a dud. Birch got us a few but it was real tough to find a pattern there. Johnson got us pannies. Cedar was a winner as usual. But even there they were not fast nor furious. May flies on the top of the water still. Weather was cold/hot/rainy/up/down all over the place. In birch they seemed to be in tight to shore 8-13 feet on some of the points and only in the evening (twilight). The deeper spots we marked nothing caught the same. The shallow 8-13' We marked plenty caught near nothing. White iron was a day of little pike. Its all we could get to stir. Anywhere significant weeds were that had some depth 6-8'. Walleye haunts near the river inlet dead not even a smallie up there. On the midlake bar on the north end notta. Sorry no good news to report. Oh. FYI Leeches worked better than minnows. Finally got some Rainbows that helped a bit. Nothing would bite on a fathead. Hope it gets better on the 4th.

My son got paid back for a good deed he did several years ago. He found a couple of expensive items at a boat ramp and called me asking what he should do.   I told him to bring them home because I was afraid if someone else found them, they might keep them. It was winter and nobody was around. This was when Facebook wasn't really popular yet, I was on several sites like this. First thing we did was make a big sign and posted it at the boat launch, then I posted it on all the forums I was on. Long story short, we never found the owner, but we sure tried. I know to this day, if either one of us found something, we'd do our best to get it back to the rightful owner.

Yes, for sure.     A few years back, and unbeknownst to me, a piece of trim came off my sled while traveling over the lake.  A fellow sledder and complete stranger found the piece and followed my tracks all the way back to my cabin to return the lost item.  Couldn't thank him enough.  His kindness will never be forgotten and is something to which I aspire.

We got the auger back! The person who found it didn't want me to mention his name, we can't thank him enough! Still good, honest people around. He called Spring Bay Resort and asked if they heard of anyone losing an auger and they sent him a screenshot of my post. So, thanks to Dayis and Steve at Spring Bay Resort for that! Thanks again everyone for getting the auger back to us!

That's what they're going to do. I always read these posts and wondered how people could lose or forget stuff, well it happens!

Dang….  I know it’s your son, so kinda different, but I’d be expecting a replacement from those who lost it.  The group could each put in and wouldn’t hit one or another too bad.   But that’s just an old man’s thoughts….💭    Good luck.

So my son and buddies were out this morning fishing between Wakemup and H.O.L. Bays (probably between Metza's pt and Schmidt Island), so they had to cross the snowmobile trail to The Landing. Well,  MY Strikemaster 24 volt auger fell off the back of my sled.  They didn't realize it until they got back. If anyone found it, would be nice to get back...please and thank you. Good news is they had the battery in their pocket..... Dip $hits😡
