heading up to Cass over the 4th and was wondering where to begin for finding the sunfish for the kids? Have they been biting? I have fished the lake only once on opener a few years ago so any help would be appreciated.

For Rockies Rocky, I suggest finding some reeds and workin' the edges and pockets with a bobber and a leech or crawler.

Depending on the age/skill of your youngster and how the wind co-operates, you might want to get into the thick of the reeds sometimes too to look for them. Good luck, and hope the kids get "hooked".

Is there any sunfish being caught lately? I never see much for sunfish reports on here. Is the Cass lake chain not noted for sunfish?? I have however heard there are some nice ones in there. I am coming up labor day weekend and was wondering if sunfish are regulary caught or if Cass has just a small population of them. I am mostly a walleye fisherman but the in laws love to sunfish.I want to keep them entertained too so any help would be appreciated.

Cass has some great panfish in it, and there are a plethora of options when targeting them. You could go up into Buck, you could fish Wendigo, or Allens Bay, you can even find fish in the marinas.

Good luck! With some effort, you'll find 'em!

is it a morning/evening bite or can you find them throughout the day? Would I typically find them shallow around labor day or are they deep. How is kitchi for sunfish that time of year

Bluegills can be caught any time of day, in pretty much any weather condition. Kitchi is a good panfish lake, and may be worth a try. You're going to find fish shallow and deep, typically you're going to find your bigger fish in the deep cabbage. I wouldn't be scared to fish coontail humps or deep cabbage edges in the 10-13 foot range.
