Hey All

Planning a week in the Duluth and Grand Marais area the last week in July. Wife has give me the ok to chase some trout for at least one day. Any suggestions on streams and stretches to target would be appreciated. Fly fish the Rush and kinni regulary here in Wi, But do not have the slightest idea where to begin in the Northland..

Thanks for any info you can provide!

There are about a million little streams up there with brook trout in em'. If it "looks trouty", there are probably little brookies in it. But it will be a lot different than you're used to down on the Rush and Kinni - think low tunnels of alder, fly-eating hazel brush, and 6-8" fish most of the time.

Just to get you started, I'll suggest the Devil Track River near Hedstrom's, just out of Grand Marais a few miles. There is a bridge and parking lot on a county road just off the Gunflint. It's a nice freestone stream, with enough room for a backcast, and there should be brookies in the pocket water. If you walk up the stream to where Elbow Creek comes in, there are trout in there, too.

Tight lines, and be sure to remember how nice us Minnesota boys were to you when later on our parterns in crime invade the Rush. wink.gif
