I was looking at possibly venturing out onto the river. I have a small 14ft fishing boat. Is this going to be way too small to go out on the Croix? Or will I be ok if I stay more to the edge of the river? I am from White Bear lake, is there a landing close to my house? Thanks in advance.

Fishin,

There is an access just north of the 96/95 intersection north of Stillwater. Close for you smile.gif Friday afternoons thru weekends always full, but not bad during week.

Your 14' will be fine there going either direction. Just watch those big wakes, as they are out there!

If you are up for drivbing a bit farther, up north of the falls, in St. Croix Falls in WI, just across from the bridge, thereis anice little Lions access and the river up there is more for smaller boats, and grat fishing. More like a northern MN trip and scenery. And quieter. But a bit farther to get to, still not too bad from WBL.

If you go downstream from Stillwater, head over to the WI side and troll upstream at a decent clip (2.5 mph) with ShadRaps or similar in near the shore. I like perch or brownish/crayfish color. You can use two poles per person, and planer boards work well if you have them. Fun time!

Or use small spinnerbaits or Mepps and the silvers are fun, especially when you hit a big school! smile.gif I haven't been out there this year, so not sure what is hot, but something is always biting on the river!

Box,

Nice reply there's good info there in that answer. I agree the 14' boat is not an issue. Actually it's a better fishing boat once your on the spot!

Gang- I've been gone for five days what's the walleye report from Stillwater on South?

Turk,

I have been surprised at the fish holding so late in the mornings with the level being down and the water temps so warm. The early morning bite is great!

I was out there a couple weeks ago and did decent

just wondering if everyone doing well with the eyes are still pulling lindy's or it is time to switch to deep running cranks. Thanks for any new info.

Been getting them on both cranks and leeches, a good plan on unfamiliar water is to troll with cranks til you hit one, then go through with a leech and maybe pick up a few less active ones. That's been workin for us lately anyway.

Thanks stratos for the info, I will be out on Sat am, early to hopefully get a few eyes.

How shallow and deep does it get N of the Lions park Landing? Is it good Walleye/Smally action?

It is  pretty shiny piece of equipment. I was able to purchase it on my scab job wages 😆 I don't think I'll update the electronics any time soon, 3 screens is enough?

🤣 not near as shiny and spendy as that livescope toy. Thats kinda like bling ain't it? besides i'm on a paultry union pension  🫣

I mean to catch pike you just need a shiny object...

Just another "Words matter"   Voting on school levy. This was posted on the School "education district" building door.  We had a nice cold walk all the way around the building! The arrow was added, after we educated them! 😒

Obviously this is more of a hot topic due to forward facing sonar. With that being said, I know people who have pulled crappies out of basins 40+ deep since the fl-8 and zercom flashers came out. That's over 30 years ago. I do think there's a push to ban these in MN and I could see them doing it here. They'll have to pay my livescope from my cold dead hands 😆 on days I can't catch a walleye jigging or rigging it's nice to turn it on and throw corks at individual fish

It wasn't just you, I was fishing west of you about an hour on Monday. Fished 8am-4pm, no fish, two keeper walleye and one small one from 4pm-630pm. Marked a lot of fish, they would come up to a jig and swim away. They were skittish to the dead stick too

I wonder like divers, if we let them decompress every 10' for 1/2hr. If that would help?  🤔  It would slow the bite down a bit!  🤭
