fished the south ccm pond 2nite from 7:30 till around 9ish, was hoping for a few crappie but came up short, caught a lot of nice 7"/8" bluegills though, pink/white minimite with a waxie seemed to work best for me, anybody had any luck with the crappies out there this summer? i know there in there from icefishing last winter, maybe a canoe or a small boat is needed to get to the middle?

Shawn,

Here is a report I had from last year.

I've not fished it yet this year, but maybe from the pictures, you can figure out where I was. I had several successful outtings there last fall. I might be interested in giving it a try again this weekend if your up for it.

If you quit at 9, you might have just missed the good crappie bite. Those buggers are somewhere out in the depths during high-sun, but they come shorebound at low-light. I always fish it till after dark. You'll notice the crappie picture in the link above was taken after sun-down.

yup those crappies in ur pics are what i was after, i kinda thought the action would pick up in a little bit but i blew a fuse in my car with whe boat trailer and had no tail lights so i figured i'd better take off before it got to dark, this weekend should be fine if u wanted to meet up down there, when were u thinking? i know my girlfriend wants to check out rochfest one of those nites but the rest of my wkend should be open, i also talked to a guy down there last nite who told me he'd been catching crappies with minnows so i'll prob pick up a scoop of them along with some waxies

I could fish Sat and Sunday morning till about noon. RugbyGuy and I had planned on playing it by ear. If sunny, we'll probably hit the pits with you. If rainy or overcast, we might to troutin.

Shoot me an email and we'll line something up for the pits.

just got back from fishing the south pit again, fished from 7:30 till 9:45, couldnt see my bobber after that, only managed 1 crappie about 10" and one small bass but the bluegills were going nuts and they were good ones many in the 9"-10" range

We'll have to head down there some night. I've fished that pit several times from shore and I've only found a few places that produce consistent crappies.

Those sound like some dandy gills

Hello guys,

Was gonna take the family out to the pits to give em a whirl. But with the rain and possible mud baths the other half told me to just go and have fun. So my son Brandon, my friend Kritter and I decided to try the north pit. it sure was nice being the only people out there we fished from 5- 9:15. At first we all tried our fun with the panfish, the sunnies were a nice bite prolly caught 45 + sunnies. 10 or so crappies the sunnies went on the average 5-7 inches and about 6 or so in the 8-9 1/2 inch range. The crappies ranged any where 4 inches to 9 3/4. The panfish mainly where in 6-8 Fotw with the floats set at 2-3 feet. Mini-mites and straight hook split shot set ups tipped with waxies was by far the best method last night. But now it really gets interesting and fun, while my buddy was reeling his line to check his bait a big ole bass exploded upon his bobber. I had noticed that the fish were feeding upon the top before hand, But that was the clincher to force me try a top water lure. I went with a rapala tiger colred skitter pop missed 5 strikes before i caught a 15 and 13 1/2 Large mouth. Then I tried a baby minus and had a line snapping runner , last but not least then i tried a #5 baby bass jointed rapala which was the bass slayer. Caught 7 on the jointed with the smallest at 9 inches with the larger ones going 16, 13, 15 1/2 and a nice 18 3/4 . So last night trip was a blast out with the boy, awesome company and fishing, definitely was a blast. plus hHope this helps ya guys out. Later.

its defentily an awsome place, has treated me very well both this summer and last winter on the ice, it was pretty muddy down there with the rainfall that we had yesterday morning, i had a few that were pushing 10" but most were in the 9" range, but yes they were very nice, i should be able to hit the pits almost any nite during the week with a day or to notice to the girlfriend, except for tue nites im out at mcquillin playing softball

tyler, have u ever hooked up with any northerns out there? i havent but now that i think about it there were a few of those gills that had some pretty nasty scars on them kinda looked like tooth marks?

I've personally never seen or heard of Northern in any of the pits. Maybe the bass are putting the "chomp" on those fish. Maybe Northern as well, but I've never heard of any.

Muskyfreak,

Nice report. Those bass on topwater are a blast! Sounds like you tied into some hogs. Great to hear

Muskyfreak,

The Mann's Baby Minus 1 is one of my favorite bass lures of all time. Seems to always produce fish for me. I should try and get out to the CCM pits and run it some out there. I've been putting most of my bassing efforts into plastics this year as I have been wanting to learn something new that I haven't even gotten the Manns out yet.

Back when I went to college at Eau Claire, I use to fish Half Moon Lake from shore all the time and nail the evening bass bite with the Mann's Minus 1.

My cousin called me up last week and said he had a "secret bass hole in town." Told me it was right over by Miracle Mile. I chuckled and said people on the net had been talking about it. So we went out for about 2 hrs on last Tues. We fished the pond closest to 52. Caught 4 all on senkos. Missed a couple on topwaters. This is the biggest of the night and I was suprised that the area held fish this good. I say that in comparison to other areas, gamehaven, willow.

I hit the pits a few days ago and found the crappies to be suspended over deeper water. I'd say they were about 4-6 feet down in 10-15 FOW. The Tadpole Spin was the ticket. I also tried my hand a bassin, but came up empty. The gills were right next to shore and pretty agressive.

Crazy you caught these fish on the pond closest to 52? I thought that pond was sterile cause it was very new. Is this the one that is directly in front of those appartments? Well i guess by your pictures it is not sterile. Nice going. ike
