I am looking for someone interetsed in hitting Tonka or Indy on Labor Day. I typically get there early (around 5:30) and plan on spending 6 hours or so on the water.

I have a 16ft Northwood, 40 h.p Merc that fits two comfortably. You can email me at [email protected] if interested.

We have a spot on a boat until this Friday, the 10/6, we're planning on fishing each day. We are from Oregon and would love a Musky master to join us to help accelerate the learning curve a bit. There's two of us and the boat has three seats, though it isn't all that large. Or we would have no problem going in someone else's boat. We're in Watertown, so any Metro area lake is fine.

We promise to feed you, buy you beers after/during, pay you, whatever wink.gif

I'd rather be a little poorer than more frustrated at this point. I was fine until someone told me they caught five muskies on Tonka today. I caught one Northern on a topraider, which at least proved to me it was possible to catch a fish on such a contraption. We caught a 36" on Waconia yesterday, so we're not completely inept, but feel generally clueless and need confirmations/corrections of our suppositions.

Thanks!

Derek

I lost my boat due to finding a hole the previous owner didn't tell me about. Long story short, I'm without a boat this fall. I have always wanted to fall fish. I had a kidney removed two weeks ago and am feeling good enough to fish. I'm home from work for the next two weeks so free to fish whenever. I live in St. Paul, but can meet you anywhere. I will help pay for gas, bait, whatever. My truck has a pass to the Washington county parks, which gets you into Anoka as well. Let me know if your interested. You can email me at [email protected]

So...Will this thread apply to ice fishing, too? I'm hoping to get out on the north end of Lower Prior Friday at noon. I'd have room for 1 more in a portable, but I was hoping to cover a little more ground and try to find a good spot for my perm, running and gunning.

I hope so...I like fishing with new peeps and seeing as most of mine are punks and don't care for ice fishing it would be really helpful. I live within a mile of Calhoun, Harriet and all that so I'll keep posted as to when I'm heading out. I might try this weekend sometime. I checked the ice last night and was still a little sketchy for me but hopefully with last night and today it will stiffen up enoungh to get out there.

I'd be willing to help out a novice, with some ice fishing & share a seat in my portable, during the week.

BTW, wish they had this in other area forums. I'm heading to Duluth and would love to wet a line a few times. I think I'll be restricted to drying-up trout streams.

Hi chise31 & Sandmannd

I will be hitting Lake Minnetonka as much as possible, trying to learn a little bit about her. Hitting bays from East to West. Took two kids last night, the vex was full but the bite was slow & we only caught 20 crappies, we each kept a few of the nice fish for a bite & put back the rest, but they had fun...that's the main thing. I'm free the next 2 nights, but will be busy this weekend w/cleaning out and re-stuffing wood duck houses & putting up a dozen more with the help of some youth waterfowlers;). Next week is all good too.

I'm "allowed" to go out Friday's after work (around 4 or so) and Sunday's in the morning and on occassion to the afternoon. I go out alone a lot of times, but it's more fun with someone along. If your interested let me know. I've got a 16' boat. I go to the Croix quite a bit and some local lakes. I live in St. Paul. If your interested, buzz me an email at [email protected].

Hey Rivernut, I just sent you an email. Not sure what was wrong with my email. The addy should be s_e_hendricks at comcast.net. A lot of people miss the "_" in the names.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
