Oxbow Park Fishing

Recommended Posts

Tyler Holm

Has anybody ever fished this area of the Zumbro (Oxbow Park)? I'd like to take the fiancé out there for a picnic and bring the rods.

I'm completely new to that area so any help would be appreciated. Species of fish? Depth? Legality? Current? Etc…

Any past reports?

Tyler, I haven't fished it before, but it's on my list of places to go. It's great for smallmouth fishing from what I hear. I'm sure depth varies like any river, but it's definitely wadeable, and from what I saw last I was out there, there's some nice rip-rap to cast from too.

My cousins live out there and Ive fished that area alot. There are some nice holes in that stretch. Ive caught alot fish through there alot of smallmouths with the random largie once in awhile. Biggest ive got down there is probably like 3lbs but that was a few years ago. I have used waders but there are some spots where you got to crawl on the bank and go around. Ive always used a duck boat with a trolling motor on it. Start at the little park after oxbow and go to the 2nd sement bridge if your gonna wade it, use a number 2 or 3 mepps or smaller and small Mr. twisters. When the bass season opens ill be looking for a partner to float the zumbro ill hit you up tyler when the time comes.

Snow?  Yeah I finally ran into some today.     And I HAD to get them on the tailgate! 😅   And that is one of the reasons to leave that stuff in MN for a little while.  😎

It is definitely getting down to the wire. I want to try and get out one more time if possible! I love ice fishing, but the fall bite has been hot.

Be careful on public land traps tend to disappear. Don’t set the traps in the open and make another path to check your traps. With duck season going on use traps that will not hold dogs. I like setting banks with mink attractor or 220’s set in rat runs.
