Liberty beach report

went out to nine mile saturday morning, was set up before sun up in 38 feet of water over the mud. Have perch move in and out all morning, lot of lookers, not many takers. In the afternoon set up on 3 mile in 26 fow, one walleye and a few perch caught, lot of lookers, very spooky. It was a good day trip, especially since my buddy won $100 bucks at the liberty resort bar and I won 2 t bones in the meat raffle...looks like really good t bones for 3 bucks

We just got back from a weekend (fri morn - sun midday) Friday was spent out of Garrison sports with 2 perch. Sat at about noon went to liberty beach at 3 mile and caught 30 nice perch through sun. morning. We were in 34 ft with a retractable. My son was hole hopping and caught fish almost every hole, not all keepers, but if I wasn't so lazy we probably would have done better. Walleyes in the perm on the camera pretty much all day but no takers. I was impressed with the size of the perch. Met a guy who lives in Isle. He says he has the mn record for an 8 pt buck and was 9 oz short of a mille lacs record muskie. 55". I have his name and address, I told him I would send him some Marmooska's, thats pretty much all we could catch perch on. If anybody knows him, let me know cause he seemed like a great gentlemen. He's 65 years old and just loved my kids cuz they reminded him of his. Anyway, this was my first experience at strictly fishing for perch, does it get better in March?

which house were you guys in? we were in a voyager and got to 3 mile before noon, left for lunch and came back, we were on the north end of the reef. I am guessing that you were on the west side of the reef since that is where I thought we should have fished, but my buddy said no head to the north side....

pigs, west side yes , maybe sw end. Just where the road turned north about a 100 yards. Didn't know the area, just plopped the house down and were at the edge of rock/mud.

Jimmy, Ken's out of Chaska makes them. They are a great liitle panfish jig that I also use for perch during lite bites. I just buy them at my local baitshop.

Yes, that is JC! we were at Liberty last night and a friend of his told him that someone was talking about him on this forum, so I told JC that I would look it up for him and sure enough JCs your guy. He is a very kind man, my fiance and I have been friends with him and his wife since we moved to this area 2 years ago. It was an instant friendship. Those two are like teenage girls when they are together. I was with JC the day you met him. Your sons have a lot of energy! We will be fishing the Perch Extravaganza in that same wheel house, we are not sure where yet. Frank at the office should know! If you would like to contact JC, e-mail me and I can get you that info.

Jimmy, marmuska's are also at Gander mtn. The last time I was there they had a good bunch left. I use the ones in a size 10 /12.

@chaffmj, never mind.  I decided to take a cruise on up there today.  Had a couple popple tops in the driveway but nothing I couldn’t clear.  Nice to see the area again.

Ludlows and Muskego both hit hard.  The Dayton place had a lot of big trees down, not sure of structural damage.  Some say a tornado skipped thru that area.  Looking at the destruction, I could believe it.  I feel bad for those impacted by this storm.   Below are a few snap shots of common sights around the area a day or two after the storm.

Mike, was there a lot of damage in the Ely area?

Drove through Annandale last Tuesday and was really bummed to still only see the old cement slab at Little Jim's. Hope they can get it built-back-better! 🙂

I heard recently the water level had gone down some. Sound like folks are re really dealing with a mess.    Fishing pictures look like a good year in that regard.   Hope the property loss isn't terrible but seems bad.   Bill

Yesterday was a grind to find bigger fish but we landed a few. Only 3 fish overall but they were all nice fish, all C&R. I do believe the sunfish are out of the shallows besides small ones. Thursday I took the nephews out and didn't see any on beds.

Glad you keep coming back, Mark. And glad you still know the way to catch a slew of walleyes. I wish i could’ve learned more while you were here. But I appreciate all the information you provide on what worked for you.  Strange year. We just got part of our dock in and our boat. I fished a couple hours this morning for the first time on a Frazer hump you know and caught ten under 12” and one keeper which I released… a nice 26+“. I’m hoping more to come soon. I hope all is well with you, Dick

Maybe the bamboozler will end up being like every fish story, some old timers holding their hands out as wide as possible to demonstrate to a youngster just how big it was....
