O.T. - attention Duluth area college wrestling fans!!

Recommended Posts

Some of you may or may not know, but this Sunday the #1 Minnesota Gophers travel to face #2 Okie St. and it will be televised on ESPNU. This should be a great match and should come down to the #1 vs. #2 HWT's fighting for the victory.

I did an extensive search for a Bar & Grill that carries ESPNU... the Ocho. To my dismay there is only one in the area. The good news is they let me reserve their banquet room w/ their big screen for the match for free. The bar is The Sunset Sports Bar & Grill, location is 4483 Martin Road - Duluth, MN (218) 723-7855 (about 3 miles outside of Duluth on Co. Rd. 4) The banquet room is just off of the bar and will be open to us @ 12:30-1:00. I believe the match starts at 2:00 CT, but myself and the family will be there by 1:00. Everyone welcome!

Sorry for the Off Topic, but this is the only site that I could think of to reach area folks.

P.S. Northlander or S.T. please delete post after Sunday if you will.

Nut I think its all good. You can delete it as you wrote it. You have the power to do your own posts but maybe you knew this.

I watched the Gophers and Hawkeyes and I try to catch it every year. I love that rivelry. Some great wrestling going on at the main U!

Man does that stink! I have been trying to get together and meet some new faces and this comes up. I live fairly close to the Sunset (great place), love wrestling, but already made plans for the weekend. Taking my son (Little Country) fishing. Good news is the lake is in Wisconsin and totally owned by my buddy's father. All to ourselves. I will report on it. Have fun guy's, wish I could be there! BC

Steve, wow that is great. Who would have thunk a pumpkin pusher that follows wrestling! ha ha We are season ticket holders and got to watch that Iowa match from the 5th row, center of the mat!

B.C.

We will get together one of these times! If you have good success and are back by 2:00, swing in!

Oh man thats SWEAT! I dont really follow wrestling except for that Iowa VS MN. match. I appreciate great athletes no matter what sport they may play. Although I love to tease hockeyplayers. They would play basketball if they werent so short and unathletic. shocked.gifgrin.gif

We didnt have wrestling in Duluth but I had a friend from Seatle who wrestled. He was half my size but still tied me up in knots. OUCH! He was like a rubberband. Nothing hurt him and every joint he put pressure on killed me! frown.gif

You still have your trailer and place up there? Maybe you should do some summer rentals of it to help pay the taxes and up keep on it? 👍

The water is starting to slowly go down. From what I can tell it looks like it’s down about 5-6 inches. The wind was terrible over the weekend though. I’m sure many properties suffered damages with Sundays winds. Things are finally starting to head in the right direction but it’s going to take a very long time for things to get back to even somewhat normal.

Stopped at VC last week as well.  Didn't have pizza, but the sandwiches and appetizers we had were good.  The service was very good.  However, that's the first and only time we had been there.

Any other info about VC?   Got kid and and fam coming up.  Been a couple years but really liked it.   Reviews on line still good.   Did Mark just hit on a bad night or has it gone down?   Being on west not a place we go often.

Going up to visit family at Mille lacs 4th of July weekend. Given the current fishing restrictions and the fact that I don’t have a boat, does anyone know any good shore/kayak fishing lakes in the Mille lacs area?

Spent yesterday afternoon wading the upper croix. Water actually seemed a little low. There was lots of floating grass, so my traditional approach of using a fire tiger jointed rapala was unusable. Tried a whopper plopper for a bit, which avoided floating grass better, but I just didn’t have confidence in using it. So since it seemed like the crayfish outnumbered the rocks, I decided to use a weightless Texas rigged plastic craw. Caught 3 smallies, and a pike.

Here's the actual water level as of Saturday, 6-25. It has dropped some but still is 4 feet above the rule curve. This is updated daily; it's just too early in the day for Sunday's data to be posted. You can check it yourself here: http://www.lwcb.ca/waterflowdata.html

@chaffmj, never mind.  I decided to take a cruise on up there today.  Had a couple popple tops in the driveway but nothing I couldn’t clear.  Nice to see the area again.

Ludlows and Muskego both hit hard.  The Dayton place had a lot of big trees down, not sure of structural damage.  Some say a tornado skipped thru that area.  Looking at the destruction, I could believe it.  I feel bad for those impacted by this storm.   Below are a few snap shots of common sights around the area a day or two after the storm.

Mike, was there a lot of damage in the Ely area?
